Hey to anyone reading this.
Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.
OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.
So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......
I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Just been walking on the breakwater path out here near the ocean. It took me about 40 minutes. It did feel good, having the gentle sunshine on my face. Hearing the waves on the nearby beach. Even the glistening water on the port side looked beautiful today.
I do feel rather tired now as I sit in my car writing this. But I am so glad that I walked.

Hi Shelleybelly!
you welcomed me when I started on the forums and you are always a kind hearted soul...Physically I am fine with walking...I guess its the anxiety that makes walking too far difficult
I hope you have a really good week Shelley...These are tough times

Since I enjoyed the walk on the breakwater wall yesterday, well I decided to walk it again today. It took me around 40mins.
The breeze was very strong, blowing my hair across my face. It felt so nice having the sunshine on me.
I watched and heard the gentle waves on the port side.
I walked right to the end, looked out into the ocean for a bit, then headed back.
On the way back a black happy medium sized dog ran so fast past me. No lead or anything. He just looked so much like he was enjoying himself. I kept walking on. Then I heared a women's voice yelling out "Fonzie", " Fonzie"! I could see she was pushing a pram with a baby and another dog was walking near the pram. The women seemed relaxed about it all. But she kept yelling out "Fonzie" "Hey Fonzie". The whole situation just made me laugh on the inside. Because the dog just bolted with such merriment on his face. He would have been safe, their are no cars nearby or anything.
My body was feeling tired after the walk. I know I am not as fit as say last year. It does make it more challenging to walk. But I am so glad I did anyway.

Hello everyone..
Today I had a bone scan..injection first then a two hour wait until the mri thingy..
After we had lunch, my support worker took me down to the river for a walk..
Starting off was a uphill..my poor leg bones and hip protested, once we got up the incline to the bush track..it was beautiful..I love looking at the shapes of trees and watching the water flow gentle down stream...The water was a yucky brown colour, with a few ducks floating on the water and some white ibis walking around the bushy area...and a glossy black crow..The crow was hopping not far behind us, because we gave it some bread...
We kept walking along the river, so many huge trees were so beautiful, one had a trunk that would have need at least 4 people to hug it..another one was growing at a 45 degree angle..some kids were playing on that one..climbing up as far as they could, then jumped off...only to do it again...
We neared the bridge...The plaque dedicated to the bridge said it was built in 1902, and then rebuilt in 1969..there were men working near the bridge, digging out a place for another boat ramp..we turn around there and walked back..on our way back I stopped to get a pine needle out of my shoe..getting close to the car I wanted to something..I walked up to a gum tree looked at it..then I put my arms around it and I hugged it for a few seconds..felt good..and made me feel good...Then my support worker done the same..We are tree huggers..Then back to PRP for the rest of my bone scan....
All up we done 3642 steps..not many steps but very enjoyable steps..
Hope everyone had a good day today..
Sending my care, and kind thoughts..

Oh Grandy you walk sounds delightful, thankyou for sharing it. I have never hugged a tree, I just may do that and see what it feels like.
I am truly sorry about your painful hips and poor leg. Do you have arthritis then?
Your support worker sounds real nice.
So glad you are getting more out and about. Did you enjoy all that nature around you? It sounds it.
Much care to you Grandy💙

Today I went for another walk in that historical town. With my beautiful sweet sister.
This time though we had a map and a listing with all the historical places to look for. We walked or more like strolled for around 1 1/2 hours. It was fascinating to see everything.
The leaflet we had had little icons to look out for on the ground or around the area where each building was. You sort of matched them up.
The walk started at a hotel, the commercial hotel it was called. We actually walked inside that one, and walked up the old timber staircase, through some beautiful doors, which opened out into a private function area. All tastefully decorated, though old looking. I really like the character feel of this hotel.
After there, we walked past a museum, then.....
To be continued
