*Trigger warning* Eating for Health and Wellness

I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.

Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )

I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.

So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Ah run for your life... The eggplant dip! No seriously, Lebanese. Ohh.

My food choices so far today.

4 slices of mutligrain toast with hummus

Green grapes and red grapes

Iced coffee made on decaffeinated coffee, which had Soymilk, maple syrup and the decaf.

A couple of handfuls of salt and vinegar chips.

Some coconut water

And I feel absolutely awful. And I know it is most likely from food choices that my body does not thrive on.

I cannot be bothered to prepare anything at all. The Kitchen of which I am feeling embarrassed to say is a complete mess. So it's not inviting or hygienic to cook in there anyways. It feels overwhelming just to look at it. When I have faced the "kitchen" mess before. I use to set a timer for 15 minutes. Then do as much as I could in that time. Go away then come back for another stretch of 15mins. No dishwasher here in this place.

Sorry I am so flat with no get up and go happening. And I just don't care

sorry you feel that way shelll

Hi there,
I've just come across this thread and it's great to see so much food variety here!
Btw I love babaganoush:)

I also thought I'd put it out there just in response to people's concerns about emotional eating and wanting to lose weight that maybe there is another way.
The evidence based Health At Every Size paradigm changed my world.

Thanks Sleepy. Just felt sorry for myself I guess. And very negative.

The sweet potato daal sounds comforting if that's the right word.

I ended up adding more vegetables and water to a bit of left over soup in the fridge.

Hello

Welcome. How do eat babaganash, do you personally use it as a dip? I am quite curious to try some. I do like roasted eggplant. And the whole vegetable is quite funky looking really.

I have not heard of the health at every size. Curious to know what this is as well, so I will look it up.

Have you had issues with emotional eating? Feel free to share if you would like too

Hi Shelll,
Yes it's a dip. I've never made my own and different brands / restaurants make it taste slightly different.

Yes I've definitely had issues with emotional eating - I've had an eating disorder and used to binge eat and now I struggle with eating regularly and enough. I've had lots of help from a dietician and psychologist who use a non-diet approach. It's a long road... but I've learnt a lot and keep learning I guess.

hi all -

welcome guest_206 you have some good tips there...

my babaganoush went straight to the bin sadly 😞 i don't like eggplant at all so can't stomach it. I know a lot of ppl find it yummy. And sometimes ppl get excited about specific brands or homemade ones tht they think are the "best" - to me no matter how good it is a babaganoush dip will still be unplesant.

Hope ur feeling better Shelll.

Hello everyone...

Wow so many different names of foods I’ve never heard of...google is going to be running overtime while I try to read up on all of them.....

No Shelly...no air popper...just an old frypan with a see through lid...and me standing their listening to the pop pop popping sound and watching the little pieces of dried out corn, become fluffy and yummy....It’s nice watching that happen....

Hello Guest206, Sleepy...

I hope everyone has a yummy and happy day today....

Grandy..

Hello

Don't think we ever stop learning. Maybe that's a good thing, I don't know.

I had a look at that... whatever it was you mentioned. The health size thing. I did not read a lot though. I also looked up eggplant dip ( oh gosh the other word) properly will have a go at making that at some point. It was like what Sleepy said like the hummus. Similar ingredients to a basic hummus. Just minus the chickpeas pretty much. With roasted eggplant instead.

Hoping you are having a good day today
