*Trigger warning* Eating for Health and Wellness

I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.

Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )

I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.

So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

I am sorry you had a stressful and bad day Sleepy. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

And yeah I have heard similar things about salmon. How it may help. Maybe it is the omega 3 ( a healthy fat in it). Do you like the canned salmon?

I need to eat more healthy fats as well. Especially omega 3. That is why I put ground flaxseed in smoothies etc. I am learning to like avocado. It is nice on toast. Walnuts are healthy for our mental health as well.

We should call you the tea girl, hope you don't mind me saying that. I have a red raspberry leaf tea here, as well as hibiscus tea and some green tea. I have not even tried the green tea yet. But the tin that the green tea is in is so beautiful. I love just looking at the tin. I think I have bought tea from an online store... what's it called. Tealife??? maybe. It is mostly loose organic tea and comes in such cute bags. Sipping on tea, can be very relaxing. For me at the moment, I need to sip it from a straw, so it does not feel quite the same.

I do hope your day tomorrow is much better for you.

Hello Shelly, Sleepy and everyone..🤗..

Reading through some of your posts..I really do now believe that I am so very much... food un-educated...So many of the foods talked about I have heard of but never tried...and trying different foods is something that I do want to do....Trying new foods was taboo when I was with my late husband...I have a lot to learn about different foods and what they do to our body and mind...

I really enjoy winter foods...getting out my slow cooker and making soups...I think most people eat more healthy in winter...I know I eat more vegetables in winter...love them in soups...

Shelly...green tea is nice and refreshing...and is a very good antioxidant for us...,I didn’t like green tea when I first tried it...then someone told me to put a tea spoon of sugar in it...now I drink it a few times a day...

I hope tomorrow is a day filled with light for everyone..

Grandy..

Hey dear Grandy.

Yes it is adventurous to try out new foods. That is what I have discovered anyway. Can make life more interesting. And you are free now in your life to chose whatever it is you would like to eat.

A slow cooker, oh yes I almost forgot I had one of those. Do you make stews in yours?

Ok green tea.. you have encouraged me to try some tomorrow

xx

Hi Dear Shelly...

Sorry it’s taken a bit long to reply....

Ha some of the “new” foods that I want to try, I have been looking up recipes for..and how to use/cook with them..has got me confused but I know I’ll work it all out...

Shelly...yes I love making stews, casseroles etc in my slow cooker..I am not vegetarian nor vegan...and didn’t say because I am afraid to disrespect or hurt the vegans, vegetarians reading this post...

I have heart issues and have been told by my Cardiologist that I must try to eat healthier....that’s hard for me, because I have been comfort eating...Those small pieces of chocolate coated honeycomb is my go to...and ice cream....I have swapped the ice cream to yogurt...The honeycomb is harder to resist 😁..I like pop corn so I bought popping corn and will try to comfort/binge eat on that instead...(without additives like butter, salt etc)...

Did you try the green tea..it is also yummy if left to go cold and add some ice...

I hope your day is good Shelly and everyone else’s day as well...

Kind and caring thoughts with a warm hug...

Grandy..

Hey Sleepy and a hi to everyone

All good Sleepy about the sprouting.

The organic apples you're finding so tasty could be an heirloom variety?
Some varieties of fruits and veg are more difficult to store in long term cold storage and other "issues" with the way we get so much food in society nowadays ie supermarkets... hence not many heirlooms in there.

I've been eating better recently.
IE more often.

My digestion can't cope with too much bread at all.
I end up getting pretty clogged up lol.

I got an awesome Green Goddess salad mix. Put some added protein in there and took half a bag to work with some Chinese Noodle salad dressing.

Shame is there's cabbage in it!
I LOVE cabbage but my digestion does NOT.
I feel sluggish for days after eating alot of cabbage (yeah I love it)... also headaches and other digestive stuff... sad face.

Looks like the chickens will be eating the rest!
Green Chicken Goddesses lol.

Rice is my fave.
Rice noodles too.

Heading to bed, nighty night everyone!
Love EM

Oh gosh Em, that is what happens to me. Bread and mostly the wheat variety feels like cement inside of me. I feel weighed down with it for days. However I can tolerate spelt bread sometimes. And also meats feel heavy. Hence why I don't eat meat.

Hope your chickens like the cabbage

Hello Sleepy. Chickpeas and quinoa sound real filling. Like them both. Hummus quite yum too. I have no idea what that other thing was you mentioned babaganash, is it from a another culture?

hey Shelll -

it's Lebanese but can be bought anywhere, it's similar to hummus but instead of chickpeas roasted they use eggplant. It's kind of like eggplant dip. I have no stomach for eggplants and can't go near the dip!

I guess they use it with felafel or lebanese cuisine.

Hi dear Grandy, no sorry needed I don't think.

And no I did not try the green tea actually, I forgot that I said I would. Mm chilled sounds good. I do like chilled hibiscus tea.

Properly a good swap with the yoghurt. Have you heard of nice cream? It is basically frozen banana that you can add other fruit too. Or instead of banana frozen mango. I am trying to think of the nice cream we like.... Might be frozen banana, mango and pineapple. Maybe with a bit of lime juice. Nope sorry cannot remember what exactly . My hubby who likes dairy and is into it a lot. Well he likes the nice cream. You need a blender or some other appliance to blend it all up though.

You may even like chocolate chia puddings. They are extremely easy to make. And have satisfied me in the past when the cravings for comfort "chocolate" yells out loud.

I do understand about comfort eating. I truly do. I keep eating chocolate Easter bunnies. As well as lots of toast. Neither of these my body agrees with. I feel awful after it all.

Great with the popcorn Grandy . I love making that. Hearing the noise of the popping. It just has a nice homey sound to it. You have an air popper then?
