We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.

Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!

Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.

Best wishes
EM

YES! New posters are very welcome to post.

Hey Kitty, well done on all the salads! Getting some proteins in those salads would help stave off the hunger well.
I LOVE the ALDI brand decaf, tastes wonderful and is a great replacement for me, just saying lol.

Hey Blue, nice to hear you spent some time with friends, pity they're not as adventurous as you are lol.
Great about your new LED lights, I know it's been a THANG getting something that helps you both.

My self-care yesterday:
~ am still taking the meds the GP prescribed but very slow progress..
~ went to bed very early, woke up tons of times lol, but went back to bed instead of just staying UP
~ had leftovers for dinner after a hard days' work.

Hi EM & everyone,

I usually want some protein in my salad, whether it is egg, salmon, chicken, ham, pork  or kangaroo. A little of one or two, if one is egg.

While out I had a salad sandwich with had lots of things, including chicken.

Earlier I'd been to talk to the surgeon about something I am conidering, & had some good advice from her. & I have more thinking to do now.😼

Then later, after lunch, my helper took me for more exercise in the park. I'd have sworn the elliptical cross trainer machine had a seat, mostly for us beginners, but it didn't. I tried pushing the speed up to make my body work harder. It was another great day outside, not getting too hot yet, either. The breeze was very welcome. Birds in the big shady trees, so good. 😹

Hi all,

Good work, guys. I've been enjoying salads a bit lately too, mmMekitty. I generally chuck some egg and/or cheese in there too (I'm vego, so no meat). EM, I didn't mind that my friends weren't feeling adventurous. I enjoyed having lunch with them, but I was also happy to have my walk on my own - alone time has been in short supply lately.

Today's self care:

1) Asked LM if he'd mind going to his friend's house instead of him coming here today, so I could have some space.

2) Tried to get some more sleep after he left. Didn't work out very well, but I tried.

3) Cooked up some veggie sausages and some Quorn pieces so I have some easily accessible protein when I need it. Getting protein that works for me has been hard work, recently.

Blue.

Hey BB Self-carers, hope you're all doing well.

Love those self-care points Kitty and Blue, you're both hammering it lol.

My self-care yesterday:
~ had Counselling,
~ changed my medication doses. I took the recommended doses, of course, but after talking with my Counsellor I realised it was TOO much for my system. Still taking the anti biotic as the GP prescribed.
~ ate healthy food.

My self-care today:
LOVED THEM TODAY lol... not quite as boring BUT I'm happy so much self-care is now HABIT as opposed to dragging myself to do anything at all.... happy days.
~ went to the Nail Salon and had the becheeses scraped off my feet lol. I'm half a kilo lighter I reckon hahaha.
Chose a BRIGHT PINKY orangey colour for my nails and they look fanceeee.
As a side note I had a lovely conversation with an elderly lady sitting next to me. Will expand more on my thread because this went deeper than I thought it would, but all good.
~ bought some yummy brunch!
~ had a long nap after our talk
~ happily sitting in my PJs listening to the kids play table tennis downstairs and laughing their heads off. Half the kids are there, the other half minus one have travelled to the city to go to an Amusement Arcade with the grandkids lol.

I'm happy and content. More than I could ever have wished for.
Love EMxxxx

~ had a beautiful, open and honest talk with BF about our relationship which was awesome, more affirming both ways than anything else, so that's sweet.

Hi EM,

Having a bit of a rest day - not that I really chose to, but my left eye is stinging, so it's not a good idea to spend even an hour on the PC, lookiing at things I really can't see.

More salad - made a smaller amount.

Yesterday I bought a few summer tops, for night wear or daywear. So today, I have actually decided to chuck a few old, very old, tops, & a few which were mistakes (I realise I just don't like them).

I've a long to go to achieve anything like 'minimalism' or simply only having things I am actually currently using. Way too much stuff!  That's reason enough to celebrate any small amount I have decided I don't need to keep.

It really helps to know others are also eating well, making salads & other healthy food, & especially choosing the healthier option when out shopping or at restaurants, with friends, etc., because it so easy to 'splurge'

Yesterday I had a lunch which turned out to be far too large, too many noodle & the option to ask for a 'doggy bag', (which my helper said the people there offered), went in one ear & out the other, bumping into nothing on the way through, ... BUT, I am aware of what I did. I willbe more mindful next time!

Hey Kitty, great self-cares!

Re: minimising.
LOVE that you're celebrating "any small amount" you've decided not to keep. That's HUGE!
Earlier this year I listened to tons of YouTube clips on minimalism and found "essentialism" clips too.
It's our home after all, so we get to decide what we want, how we want things.
I realised I don't want to be a minimalist, but I do love the idea of:
1. organised spaces
2. knowing where things ARE lol
3. having pretty things I love around me, including different textures like velvet or plush materials.

Blues has a Minimalism thread if you're up to it.

Well done on the healthy eating too Kitty!
I wanted to share one of my all time favourite salad recipes with you - may not be to your taste but I love it lol.
A heap of rocket (I call rocquette) with a splash of extra virgin olive oil and scrapings of hard parmesan cheese.
A squeeze of lemon juice if you like it (I LOVE it lol).
Mix it up, that's it.

My chooks are calling me for breakfast so I better get on. Talk soon!

My 3 self-cares today:
~ seeing my Gardening Idol, Costa, in person at a talk he's giving this morning. I'm so excited. I seldom do anything for myself outside the home, so this is really big for me.
~ rose early to have a relaxing morning beforehand
~ thought about buying a comfy chair for the talk, so might head over to Anaconda, the camping store, to buy a couple.
~ will have a thorough, scrubby shower with my lovely smelling shower washes
~ will eat healthy meals today because healthy food invigorates me!

Have a lovely day everyone

Great to hear about everyone's self-care activities & celebration of smaller achievements. I too would love to be a minimalist, I'm far too sentimental about things unfortunately.

My self-care things:

  1. Bike ride with my family
  2. Perusing the Beyond Blue forums
  3. Listening to music

Hey sbella, sweet self-care points, love those. xxxx

Oh! I forgot to post about Saturday!
I DID get into Anaconda, so HAPPY I followed my instincts there (I'm usually too afraid to go into expensive shops because they're expensive lol, but I did and wow!).
Had no idea where I was going to find the chairs I wanted.
Then looked to my right and BINGO! There they were....

IN THE 50% OFF PILE!

I dug around to find TWO blue ones. One for me, one for Yvette. We go to watch the grandkids play soccer but had awfully uncomfortable chairs this season.
These ones are FANCY! So happy I did this for us.

My self-care today:
~ woke early to enjoy the morning with my cuppas and my BB family
~ pressed the GRATITUDE button and thought of all the things I'm grateful for as I did my morning routine (I'm trying to make this HABIT too)
~ will press my COURAGE button soon (not too soon lol) so I can venture downstairs and into my garden to survey the aftermath of the big party we had last night.
I'm fine with it all really. Buttt it will take a while to clean up lol.

Hope you discover some self-care to do for yourself today because YOU are the most important person in the world.

Love EMxxxx
