Hi,
Does anyone out there loss the plot when things happen that are out of our control.
I feel i seem to escalate the situation. Take for example today, get feeling ok joking around and then something happen. I fall into a heap thinking what if i did this, start blaming anything and everything as this is happening i feel my day sinking fast. My better half took car to shops and on the way home had an accident, he is ok and it was out of his control but it was something i feel i could handled differently.
It has taken all day to get over and has a big impact on our household so i am working on a different spin to get over it, looking for things that are good about it. He is not injured, the other car he hit did not have anyone in it and the car was a lemon anyway.
Anyone got any ideas about ways to get over things that are out of our control to soften those negatives that bring you down or worsen the situation.
Looking forward to people input.
Gen

Hi gld,
Thank you for your post 🙂 I am glad that everything worked out ok and your partner is safe. I know what you mean, an accident is something that is out of our control and it is a big thing but I am sure many people could be able to relate to what you are saying. I know some people where the smallest thing will upset them big time, i put myself in that category sometimes and then other people and they laugh at life. I think its largely a personality thing, how we are all made up so differently. I also think experiences we have can trigger us in different ways. If you are really worried or want to process life differently you can get a referral from GP and do some work with a professional, maybe CBT or other strategies, mindfulness. I do the palousemindfulness course online or jon kabat zinn about being in the moment or smiling minds/ calm app for meditation and relaxation, breathe, yoga, distraction, go for a walk, get in nature. You could say to yourself I AM OK RIGHT NOW !!! because most of the time we are ( rick hanson). I am working on doing the same thing so I wish you well and hope you get lots of useful tips! Best Wishes Nikkir x

Hey gld,
Im glad to hear everything is ok with your partner that would of been very scary!
A few ways I have found useful for myself during my years of depression and anxiety is that when I lost all my thoughts and felt the dramatic change and stress that lead me to overthink way to much, I would use relaxation techniques to help relax my muscles and reduce tension that I'm feeling particularly in my head here a few ways you can do this.
There is a app called insight timer that has 1000s of different relaxation techniques, I used to focus anywhere my tension was and squeeze that closest muscle to that tension and then slowly let go while keeping my eyes shut this sends reactions to your muscle activating them and then releasing so your taking your mind off why your brain wants to think (:
Another is exercise while listening to positive music this helped, I used to run but you can walk or swim doesn't matter but any exercise will release endorphines to ease your stress and focus right back to your rational state (:
i hope I have helped, there are many people here and they are all awesome !! Take care.
