Dear All~

What this place is for:
This thread is a tool, a resource, and also I guess a dash of entertainment.

I’ve found that when life is grim that sometimes thoughts of past happiness can create a chink of light in the grey overwhelming press of down. They can help occupy the mind with lighter reflections.

With that in view I invite people to set down a brief passage describing some happy event they look back to with fondness and peace.

They - and others too - can then return to it when they feel the need to glean a little warmth.

It is not a place for gloomy or dire tales, those can go elsewhere.

What to do:
Just set out, as simply as you like, your recollection of some past experience that means something good to you, something you enjoyed, something from safe times.

It can be, like my story below, anything – from an account of visiting grandparents to simply cooking and eating a melted-cheese sandwich in a favorite kitchen – you get to choose.

How to do it:
Write. Write enough so someone else can feel the mood, know what happened, find the goodness. (stop at 2,500 characters please!)

Grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation are not compulsory, just write as you can – the only important thing is the content - not literary merit. Short or long - it does not matter.

I hope you enjoy, contribute and find a little distraction here when you need it.

Lovely, happy memories!

Going along with the food them, I had an Aunty who used to make delicious cakes, biscuits and slices. If there were 6 of us attending, their would be six pieces of each delicacies on plates.

We were only allowed to have one piece of each item. If you liked the caramel slice best, you could only have one piece of that. No trading was allowed either.

It made me laugh to myself and made me wonder about how people do things differently.

Morning all,

This is awesome it does bring back memories.

My Pop was a crown sgt in his day, growing up mum would say he had a breakdown and can't cope with something's now. I now know how he felt.

I would often ride my bike,it had the three gears in the bar between ya legs and a high loop thing at the back. while I was at pops I would help make his home brew, washing bottles and and sugar etc. I all so roll his cigarettes, then hid under the caravan and roll some for me.

Later

I watched as a homeless man rummaged through a bin looking for a feed so I handed him a note.

Later you reminded me - thanks.

When I was a teenager I lived in a city, houses everywhere. Over the back fence was a huge internal block. It had a house, sheds and two paddocks with two horses.

The man that lived there and owned them was a veteran, damaged in the war, though I could not understand that at the time. Every day he would sit in his shed away from his family smoking and slowly drinking beer on a little porch. Looking out over the horses in his little universe he showed me how to repair tack, riveting, stitching, enriching the chafed leather.

I used to exercise one horse and he the other, out on the streets where the wind blew savage horse-eating bits of paper making them shy and sidle.

When we returned and had settled I would roll his cigarettes, and sneak the occasional one myself, to be solemnly told not to let my parents know.

Hey found you again Quercus,

Just wanted to thank you for your memory of the island. Absolutely loved it and you totally took me there. That is the ultimate goal with fishing too.

On our honeymoon we stayed on an island, thought I looked pretty hot so we went to do the rounds of the golf course,I just wore shorts and a very brief swimmer top. We had heaps of fun and young love fun.

That night I could hardly move,my boob bits that were hanging out had blistered from the sun. We now look back and laugh so hard. Funny I just want to do it again.

I can remember one day my little princess sitting roughly in the centre of the kitchen. With her little brother who had just mastered crawling. She was all ready walking, both just sitting there. Smiles from ear to ear. Both happy not a care in the world. Both looking totally innocent, butter would never melt in their mouths. Very innocent. We can do no wrong. Who us.

Checking the floor around them One bag of plain flour opened distributed evenly over floor and two children, several bags of dried
pasta as before all over the floor and over children one two kilo bag sugar opened spread all over floor. Basically they had opened the pantry. Anything they could open was all over the floor.

Moral of this story is Grand ma says kids don’t make mess. They only make cleaning opportunities.

Kanga still laughing at this one Luckly we had enough food in child prooed areas to suvive on.

Dear Later and all~

Um, ta, it's rather a long time since I was called a boy! As for loving horses - I have my reservations. They are an amazing beast that can deliver a kick in any direction and bite in most. If they stand on your foot it takes weeks to recover.

That being said I did manage to dredge up a couple of happy memories of them. Riding can be pretty good on a cooperative steed. I used to go around in the English countryside on pony-back, a whole quiet green world.

I think racehorses are fundamentally silly. The are so high strung it was really tiring taking them for exercise, particularly as I was supposed to keep them at a walk on the tarmac and they kept having other ideas.

Good morning Everyone,

Just drifting through before I head out for the day. Love everyone's stories here. The kids helping themselves to the pantry was a treat! The little darlings. I can picture them having so much fun sitting amongst all the ingredients.

I have just been for a wander around the house to see where the cat is. I have not made the bed yet and have the pillows in the middle of the bed. Puss has decided my pillow is the place to sleep right now. She looked at me as if to say "Do you mind? I am sleeping here, buzz off" so I will make the bed later.

Horses, oh yes. While helping with Riding for the Disabled, one horse I was leading kept trying to push me into the fence. One of the other volunteers told me I needed to treat the horse like a dog and let him know who was boss. I returned a comment about a horse being one heck of a huge dog!

I can relate to you Croix, I have been kicked, walked on and chomped by horses! While riding they have tried to throw me off or wipe me out on low lying tree branches. Despite all that, they are beautiful creatures.

Cheers all from Mrs. D.
