Another nice little topic to chat about 🙂

It's really important to those of us with mental issues to hold on to our achievements and successes, especially the ones over our illnesses. Each and every achievement, no matter how small you might think it is, is so important. We should celebrate and take pride in each achievement- because each one is a step towards recovery.

So in this topic I'd like us to share our successes. You can post as often as you like, every time you have an achievement or success you'd like to share (even if you think "but it wasn't that big a deal"). Yes it IS a big deal! Fighting an illness is hard work, so lets celebrate all our achievements!

When i first fought my anxiety, my very very first challenge was to drive to the local shops. And I achieved it, and boy did I celebrate. Might not sound like much to someone else, but to me it was like climbing Mount Everest while wearing shorts and thongs (i imagine). So you better believe I went home and danced around my house celebrating my success!

My most recent achievement I am celebrating is: I attended my first job interview in 3 years that i did NOT take any anti-anxiety medication whatsoever for. Every other interview in the last 3 years i've needed strong anti-anxiety medication. But after much therapy and hard work, i learned more and more coping skills. I was nervous about not taking the medication as I was so used to doing it, but not only did i get through the interview but i did it calmly and kept my anxiety well under control. I'm pretty proud of myself!

(Also I got the job- yay- but unfortunately i cant accept it due to other reasons. But I'm still celebrating being offered a job!!!)

So lets hear it! Whats a recent achievement, positive step or success you made? Take pride in it and celebrate it!!

Hi Dottie and Evan John and Everyone,

Speaking of dancing, years ago I was recovering from Chronic Fatigue which really messed my head up and left me with little energy.

I joined a women's support group. Part of that was doing traditional dances from around the world. For me, I had no coordination at all. I forgot which was left or right and what was front or back.

In the end we all had a great laugh at the way my mind did or did not work. The ladies were wonderful and just laughed when I bumped in to them as I went left while they went right.

Occasionally I just did my own thing as my mind could not follow any instruction at all. I was participating, that was the main thing.

I might put on some music later on and have a little dance!

Funny thing about that book Dottie, I didn't read much as I ended up falling asleep. Ha. Ha.

Cheers all, keep on achieving or at least planning to achieve something! From Mrs. Dools

Hi!

Evan John, I'm glad your dance class went well. Shame it's the last session though. Dance is such a beautiful form of self expression- I LOVE dance! Could you look into continuing the dance sessions/classes elsewhere?

Mrs. Dools, the women's support group sounds wonderful. You had fun and were involved- and that's what counts.

Ha, ha maybe you needed sleep more than you needed to finish your book 😉

Thanks for all your supportive messages here, Mrs. Dools!

Change your name! They'll never know.

Today I got up to do my 6 am half marathon. Ran it in 2 hours and 1 minute which was annoying because I was aiming for sub 2 hours. Oh well. Always next year. Still a pb.

Hi James,

Well done! That's a fantastic pb! Sure, maybe it wasn't under 2 hours but it sure was close! Also that's commitment to get up so early on a Sunday morning. Congratulations again 😊

That made me laugh. Rest assured, at least I haven't been banned from borrowing at my uni library (yet). I'm just not popular at my local library 😉

Hi,

I'm out of bed. Took almost 2 hours but I'm up!

And on an unrelated note, I'll be trading in my old handset for the iPhone 7 in the next week or so. Yay!

Dottie

Got through my first week back at voluntary work, with only 2 major stresses.

Onto this week...

Hi,

Music_Freak, glad to hear that volunteering went relatively smoothly. That's fantastic!

I just got 1 of my exam results back and I'm pleased (save for the perfectionist voice in me who has been saying, "yeah, it's not bad but you didn't get the 100% that you wanted!" ha, ha).

Dottie

I'm up! I'm out of bed! It was a struggle ha, ha. Did. Not. Want. To. Get. Up.

Was tempted to call in "sick" at work but need the money (joys of the struggling student life ha, ha) so that's not an option.

Anyway, getting ready for the day.

Hope you're all doing okay.

Dottie
