"Healing Tip o' the Day #672" by Flick SnotGrass
Tip #672 is Listen to some Spike Milligan and sing either "I'm walking Backwards to Christmas" OR "The Ying Tong Song"
KARAOKE STYLE AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS.
So, Like I said, I was born with an extremely severe case of excema....
I don't want to wallow
[well maybe just half a cup then]
but there were days in my early teens with:
my face,
neck,
arms,
knees
etc
bleeding, scabby
and worse
over-exhausted from very little sleep, due to the red raw night scratching,
[adrenal fatigue too probably]
that I realized to my horror that
Valerie,
Vyonne,
[insert Girl's Name here]
were ALWAYS GOING TO BE WASHING THEIR HAIR!!
They either had very dirty hair OR they didn't want to have a cup of tea with me.
The Doctors of the Day said my condition was "Genetic" and "There is nothing we can do for Flick" and "Sorry about that but he is an interesting specimen, er ... can I let my students have a prod at his hide" and "So on".
"Nothing can be done".!!!!
I plumbed depths of black helpless depression back in those dark days of 1962.
Fortunately I have a stubborn streak.
"Bloody difficult sod" is how my mother puts it, bless her cotton socks.
I found a furiously angry part of myself that said "Bugger that!" and worse
and I began my search for tools and techniques that could heal me....
.... I don't have scabs anymore .... I'm not called 'Flick ~ The Big Red Dog', anymore either
Steal from me...
no really....
I have a long list of tools that I use to this day that I have picked up, used and honed over the years and here's todays Healing Tip o' the Day #672 just for you....
#672 - Listen to some Spike Milligan and sing either "I'm walking Backwards to Christmas" OR "The Ying Tong Song" KARAOKE STYLE AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS.
"Why?"
Because, Laughter produces endorphins and beneficial 'feel good' neurotransmitters.
Your breathing will improve your Heart Rate Variability, HRV and will help calm you.
It is also quite difficult to be bloody miserable while singing The Ying Tong Song out loud.
Try it, you'll see.
Be better than well,

Hi Flick!
Now why did I miss this thread yesterday when I needed it?
I can't say I have ever done kareoke. But singstar on playstation was so much fun. I don't remember much because it was usually accompanied by far too many beverages.
But I do remember the laughter.
I'm looking forward to your tip 674 in your next post on this thread.
There is another post coming right??

Hey Quercus,
Really glad you liked Tip #672...
... and I'm glad you remember the laughter...
...GREAT resource LAUGHTER...
"LAUGHTER WROKS!" says I ..
You wrote "I'm looking forward to your tip 674 in your next post on this thread."
Ah, OK, good...I was going to post Healing Tip #673 first but I like an ambitious student Nat, so I'll skip #673 and post #674 instead.
[Sod #673, who needs it? Right?]
"There is another post coming right??" Oh, yes...you can't shut me up now...my mother didn't call me 'Sir Lawrence" for nothing!!
Actually I was going to start a new thread for #674 so I can point people to each Healing Tip individually as needed.
My observation is that it seems that a lot of folks on BB need some new
skills,
techniques and
tools
to practice improving their moods on a regular basis...
I'm rambling....most unusual for me...
ONWARDS! or UPWARDS!
you choose,

Hehehe oops I kept repeating in my mind 673 and then couldn't remember if that was the new number or the existing. Yep. Memory like a goldfish sorry.
Hmmm I think if you put it in a separate thread it might get picked up in moderation as a duplicate thread. Not 100% sure though.
I would love to know healing tip 673 or 674 or maybe even both. Maybe 673 can be onwards. 674 can be upwards?
And yes you are right. We all need techniques. Share away.
My favourite saying is...
I don't want you to save me. I want you to stand by my side as I save myself.
So share away and please inspire us to help ourselves.
Nat 😊

A DUPLICATE?
A DUPLICATE! my good woman!
Here am I slaving over a hot keybored trotting out amusing, helpful healing tips and to be considered duplicating? Reminds of that bit in Robbin Williams' TOYS, where the Head Of Security is suspicious of the photocopying machine 'Duplicatin'! Duplicatin'! there's too much duplicatin' goin' on around here!'
Love that film.
Yes Quercus, you cannot 'save' anybody but you can show them the on-ramp to healing.....'it's over there...keep going...bit further...you'll find it'.
Be better than well,

Hey Nat,
Hope all is well with you.
Did my Healing Tip #647 get held up by the Duplicate Police?
Or, if you have no clue, who do I ask pls?
Still learning the ropes of Good BB Netiquette.
Onwards!

Hi Flick,
Thanks for a refreshing view on life from a different angle. It has made me realise how over time, and while wrestling with life, some of the fun and joy can be lost along the way.
It is time, right now, to reload the fun and carefree spirit back into this mind body and soul of mine.
On my way to my volunteer job, I will play a CD from the 80s and sing to my hearts content as loud as I can. I might have to keep my windows shut though as there are a lot of bugs and blowies flying about at present.
I don't want to swallow something and interrupt my rendition of "Bat out of Hell!"
Regarding which ever number you are up to and it not appearing just yet, the moderators may just be keeping it to themselves for a while have a great read! (Only kidding, posts do get checked though, yours should appear soon.
I used to run a playgroup. During one singing session, one of the older kids asked if I could stop singing as I was hurting her ears! Ha. Ha.
Cheers to you and all who want to re-find their funny bones! From Dools

Hey Doolhof,
Tho' I think Dools is quite a bit funnier.
I love your story of singing "Bat out of Hell!" in the car, great for the larynx btw and for strengthening your right parietal lobe, which in turn will strengthen your emotional resilience [which I will discuss at length in a later Healing Tip o' the Day]
Dools, thanks for the kind words...yes we've all gotten way Too Serious, which of course, stops us playing outside of our little box and releasing those amazing feel good neurotransmitters.... SING ON says I. Bring on the Karaoke. Speaking of Karaoke, I once sang a version of Who Shot the Sherrif in fake Korean in a bar in Outer New Brunswick Canada, hey who knew it wasn't real Korean...hahaha, life is short. I've got a recording of it somewhere.
I think you are right, the Moderators are keeping my Healing Tip o' The Day #674 to themselves.
Not surprised really, it really was quite a good Tip, really. It was about how to TALK TO YOUR AMYGDALA.
When you can TALK TO YOUR AMYGDALA you can calm your brain and body right down and start to cheer up.
Well I don't want to steal my own thunder...you'll see what it's all about when they get around to publishing it.
In the meantime, keep singing really loud because you are quite right when you say "It is time, right now, to reload the fun and carefree spirit back into this mind body and soul of mine."
If not now, then when?
Have a significantly above average day,
Flick SnotGrass

Hi Flick,
Know something weird? I read and hit mark as helpful for tip 674. Talk to your Amygdala. You wrote about counting. Breathing. Was a really good one actually.
But then it disappeared. I have no idea why. I remember thinking ah look at that mods decided it was ok after all. Maybe it will come back in a few days. If not you could always pop a message in the thread about moderation.
By the way... if you feel up to it I started a thread in staying well about building support networks. Do you have any ideas to share? No pressure just value your opinion 😊

Hey Quercus,
Good to hear from you and yes let me think about your support network group idea. It's a good one, let me noodle.
You are correct Tip #674 was about breathing and calming your Amygdala. Yes it was quite a good tip.
Ah, so #674 came on for a bit and then got 'revectored' or whatever happens to bad posts. Hmm.
You wrote "Maybe it will come back in a few days. If not you could always pop a message in the thread about moderation."
Ah, I don't want to be a nuisance Quercus, as in:
MODERATOR [before morning tea]: "Hmm, another Flick Snotgrass post, righty-o, where's my red pen?" [Probably followed with a few Bwahahahas].
But I'll give it a shot Quercus.
Dear Moderator,
Hello.
I'm Flick Snotgrass.
I hope you are having a nice day.
You are doing a jolly good job of moderately moderating, thank you.
It must be a lonely job, no one appreciating the excellent work you are doing.
Er, um, is the any chance of re-instating my Healing Tip o' the Day #674?
Probably not but I thought I'd ask.
Anyway, I don't want to be a trouble. I'll go and pop the kettle on, j`ya fancy a cuppa? I'll be mother.
Very kind regards,
Flick SnotGrass
