Hi Everybody
This is only the basic dictionary definition...
"Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment without judgement"
- Please be as blunt you wish....If you dont have an idea about mindfulness it would be great if you could let us know
- If mindfulness hasnt worked/or is too broad a concept for you it would great if you can let us know your thoughts too
- If mindfulness has helped you, please help others to help themselves by posting how you have embraced this mindset
It goes without saying that the forums are a judgement free zone and I really hope that everyone can jump in and have their say
Your input is highly valued no matter how you respond to this topic. There are no experts here...New Posters are Most Welcome!!

Hey GG,
Great meditation story, glad it was useful for you...
GG, have you experimented with a CES unit to calm your brain?
[CES = Cranial Electro Stimulation, I've written about them elsewhere on BB, won't bore you with the info here]
I've had a CES unit for about 5 years, VERY helpful tool, for calming me and energizing me when I need a caffeine free boost.
Hugz,
Flick

Dear BlondGuy....I am noticing whenever lately, (has not always been the case over the years) whenever I try to meditate or practise mindfulness, that sort of thing - I begin to cry. All this pain comes up and I can't do it without tears flowing. Is this a good thing, or not?
I've been avoiding it...just sitting overlooking the ocean today from a high vantage point...a gorgeous day....very strong smell of salty air, so clean, so pure, so invigorating - the surf rolling in..massive, yet gentle waves of foam-tipped green water - so lucky am I to live by the ocean....so naturally the tears welled up. All the pain and sorrow of past months overwhelmed me.
Some well meaning folk may say "If it upsets you, don't do it!!"........
I trust you BlondGuy -so tell me, is this the way meditation, breathing and peaceful mindfulness is supposed to work?

Hi Moon
Thankyou for huge compliment firstly. To have you offer your trust in me was wonderful to read Moon...
You mentioned "Some well meaning folk may say "If it upsets you, don't do it!!"........"
To answer your question Moon....there is nothing wrong when the tears flow when we close our eyes....It just means our 'tired & exhausted mind' is trying to let go of all the crap that has built up for so many years...
The mental health care worker that I had appointments every week for 7 months had me crying like a baby after visit #2. Thats 30 visits in total and I was crying big time during my second visit....and third....ugh!
I went home thinking why I felt so bad......after a few days I understood that after he poked and prodded around he really really helped me 'let go' of all the pent up anger/anguish I was carrying around with me....
This MHW had me back at work after one week.....I kept seeing him every week for the next six months.....
I felt awkward...uncomfortable....mega upset....Initially......then came peace with the remaining six months of weekly therapy
Mindfulness does work for low level anxiety/depression Moon. My anxiety used to be 'off the scale' to such a point that I quit my membership to the MCC....That was a hard call as I couldnt be in the stadium without the anxiety and the IBS that went with it.
Just my opinion Moon....Mindfulness works very well with low level anxiety that is being treated regularly by a crackerjack GP/Therapist.
You are and always have been a gift to so many for so long Moon
My Kind wishes for you x

Hi GG
I think your candle and being able to 'float' away (even with some bad thoughts) is a huge bonus and I will take up your idea about the music and candle as a way to find myself some peace too.
GG mentioned "Memories (bad one)..decided to visit, I managed to not dwell on them, go back to my waterfall and candle"
You are a champion GG for not 'fighting' the bad thoughts and 'calmly accepting them' as a pathway to peace 🙂
I learned this technique from Dr Claire Weekes book....'Self Help for Your Nerves' It may be an old fashioned title yet she spent many chapters writing what you have just practiced. Dr Weekes was a psychiatrist who 'came out' and spoke about anxiety and depression.
I used her book as a bible when I had awful anxiety and depression. It was in the early 1980's....no internet.no google....no cell phones...just books..I hope you can find some value/healing in this link and review GG
