Hi Everybody

This is only the basic dictionary definition...

"Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment without judgement"

  • Please be as blunt you wish....If you dont have an idea about mindfulness it would be great if you could let us know
  • If mindfulness hasnt worked/or is too broad a concept for you it would great if you can let us know your thoughts too
  • If mindfulness has helped you, please help others to help themselves by posting how you have embraced this mindset

It goes without saying that the forums are a judgement free zone and I really hope that everyone can jump in and have their say

Your input is highly valued no matter how you respond to this topic. There are no experts here...New Posters are Most Welcome!!

Sez, thanks a bucket load for your post.

Most definitely going to watch that movie.

Mark.

Hey everybody!

Sara mentioned above "Normal mindfulness practices don't usually work as their concentration skills can be too low. A popular movie called 'Temple Grandin' is a wonderful example of the autistic mind in action, and gave Claire Danes an Academy Award for her acting"

As per Marks (JT) post the movie sounds like excellent value......Sara...is it available on youtube?

Paul 🙂

Paul,

I am recording myself reading a small crime fiction paperback about a talented cat who helps solves crimes for a woman who is losing her eyesight.

I read a chapter at a time and I must concentrate so I don't trip over words and read the words in the right order. I am really in a another place when I concentrate. I think it is a type of mindfulness so I thought would share this. I can only read 2 chapters at the most as I get so tired and my eyes get sore.

I hope all is well with everyone.

Quirky

Hey Quirky and everybody 🙂

To lose yourself in two chapters is mindfulness as you have 'zoned out' of any focus that you have usually placed on yourself and the issues that you are experiencing.

When you 'lost yourself' in the moment without unwanted thoughts is excellent.

You are a legend Quirky and good on you!

(Im sorry about the delay in responding....just been having some time out)

My kindest thoughts for you

Love this as I have to say i have never really thought of mindfulness like that.

Having enormous difficulty concentrating when reading so think i might give this a go. Force myself to concentrate.

Cheers Quirky - appreciate it.

Mark

Paul, I would suggest that 5,967 posts equals a fair bit of horsepower yourself!

I am also in the midst of my brain playing funny buggers and taking a decent amount of time to get to sleep.

Will pick apart what i have been doing to see if i can work out why but sometimes it is what it is. Take the bump and move on.

Just have to work harder in the meantime to concentrate.

Yeh building the snowman in Detroit at Christmas was so much fun - a real "happy place" for me to go to when needed!

Your counsel is a gift. I just posted on the other thread to Shred about sleep. I will take your advice and work harder to get over these 'bumps' though. and thankyou so much 🙂

Today at my appt i noticed there is a lively window in the room. I hadn't noticed it before which is funny as the room is small and the wi die takes up half a wall. I mentioned it to my psych she said probably because I have been focussing on other things ie what I'm talking about. It's a great window with great views.

Paul, thanks for that but it is actually pretty easy as this is "me" time being on the forums. I love it. It is relaxing for me and very rewarding helping others out. Just like you do.

CMF, outstanding observations. Next time you are walking near a park, stop to look at the trees and surroundings. A lot of people will see trees and grass but take a closer look.

The type of trees, the shapes, the colors, the leaves, the grass color - there is so much more available to the eye if you actually 'see" what you are looking at instead of glancing.

I think your eyes are widening right up! Brilliant.

Mark.
