managing health with full time work

Hi,

I am looking at some advice on how to manage health problems when working full time. Along with depression and anxiety I have a list of other health problems that get in the way and I find it hard to manage. This means I often take a day off work every couple of weeks because I find everything, including anxiety, overwhelming.

I am getting better with taking better care of myself by starting with diet and making sure I have the right energy throughout the day. But I feel so guilty when I need to take this time off. It doesn't help that I'm casual either and it puts my job on the line.

I would appreciate advice 🙂

Hi Gloria, welcome

Ive always suggested to people with depression to work 1,2,or 3 part time jobs rather than one full time.

You'll then have at least other work thete if you lose one job but more importantly you'll be stimulated leaving one job then going to the next as its an environment change.

Also we with mental illness imo should aim for low debt. Old unteliable cars develop stress but a tempting nrw car will make our employment mandatory. Trapped!

thanks for your post white knight. I must admit working part time was a good when I had tried that. This casual role came up recently and I thought I'd take it and see how it goes. I find the idea of a full time week overwhelming, along with managing other tasks at home. To make things harder I find it challenging dealing with different staff.

I have been thinking of just doing this role over Christmas and start looking for something four days a week in the new year.

At least the positive is that I'm managing the 'fight or flight' response pretty well 🙂

Hi Gloria,

Thats great that you are aware. Yeh, best to wait till the new year.

Hi all,

I guess this is a continuation of an issue with work. I have recently started to try working full time again and I have been having a couple of issues at work.

One of the things I have difficulty with is sitting still all day. With my anxiety it makes me feel really fidgety and that's hard when you have to sit at the computer all day. Is this something others deal with? What sort of ways can you manage it?

The other thing that has happened is that I think I have been targeted for bullying. I've only just started this new job, so there's really no need for it, I don't believe I've done anything wrong. There is one girl that since day one that has compared me to another girl that started at the same time because she is faster at her job. It has made me feel quite uncomfortable at work and that I'm not good enough.

She isn't rude just to me either, she can be very blunt to other colleagues and I think she likes to play games with people. It is making me feel a bit on edge.
