--->>> OTT --- Old Thought Thoughts! <<<---

Greetings!

This post is about LIMITING-BELIEFS, or as me and my brother Matt now call them, Old Thought Thoughts - OTT.

---

This post will most likely not appeal to many people, because I am writing about our beliefs that we have about life and ourselves, that we all have had for much of our life.

Our beliefs are personal, and yet oddly the 'same' as well.

---

There is a school of thought that teaches us that when we identify the OTT i.e. I am unlovable.

Relate to the OTT, rather than from it.

We can then release the attachment to the OTT, as well as the aversion to the OTT.

For example -

A child is told that they are no good, useless and worthless, every other day.

-sadly, this is a story often told, by many.

As this child grows a set of OTT have been programmed into the mind-body of the now grown adult-child.

I am no good.

I am useless.

I am worthless.

etc etc etc

The adult-child now has an attachment to the OTT.

But also you would see an aversion to those OTT as well.

I am no good <- the attachment.

And, I hate that I am no good <- the aversion. The judgement for having the OTT in the first place, keeps us attached to the OTT.

---

Not all beliefs are limiting.

All beliefs are fluid.

They are mutable - liable to change, as all things in existence are!

But...

How do we release the OTT?

Thats what we're most interested in!.

I am going to share a few things of how I am learning to release all of the OTT that once ruled my life, and would love to read yours as well!.

1) Refer to the OTT being in the past. If we keep on affirming the OTT in the present moment, it stays in the present moment. By writing and talking about the OTT being in the past, youre correcting the memory. REWIRE!

2) I AUGMENT positive memories. Whatever they are, whenever they happened. This is why I actively look for things to be thankful and grateful for. Appreciation, heals! And thats now science...if youre interested in the research about this, let me know!

3) I have learned to ask for help, and to RECEIVE it graciously, whenever it comes to me. And, it always does.

4) I SMILE and LAUGH more. Theres research for this too!

5) I have changed my eating habits. I EAT WELL now. I am now on the Guts and Psychology Syndrome foodplan GAPS. I used to be obese. No more.

6) I EXPRESS in healthy ways - dance, music, write..

7) I take time out to LOVE - my family, friends, my dog bundy, nature..

REMEMBERING to LOVE is a biggie!.

And, whatta 'bout you?...

Morning all!

How was your dinner out Matt? Inquiring minds (and nosy buggers) need to know. 😄

Hey Kaitoa - I had to google that festival - being an ACT person the only one I knew of was the National Folk Festival here at Easter. So, wow! It looks amazing! And huge. No wonder you want to go and I'm really happy you'll be able to.

If you want to pop down to Canberra beforehand, Taurus and I can share looking after Bundy.

Have a good good day everyone.

Kaz

I would love Bundy to stay with you guys.

He'd love it!.

Thanks for the offer though.

Kaitoa - yeah, that would have been fun. Tammie would have got along well with Bundy. And I'm sure Kaz's two 'oodles would have been okay with it too? (-:

Actually Kaz, I am about to leave the ACT. So very soon, I will no longer be a fellow resident. Moving again!

Hello to everyone else here today. I always seem to be able to catch a good roll-up of lovely people here on your thread Kaitoa. Any time of day, or night.

My OTT thought for today - I'm going to feel like s**t for the rest of my life, with no way out of it.

NPT - There are psychological treatments which help with PTSD over the long term. There are medications which can help in the short term, including to help with sleep and nightmares. There are understanding people right here on BB who offer support on a daily basis. Things can get better, provided I put the personal effort in and allow my treatment providers to guide me.

Have a good day everyone.

Taurus

Morning all

My OTT - I am not worthy and have put on so much weight that I cannot stand myself

NPT - The medications are necessary and you will learn to live again

Hiya Taurus - are you off to the south coast like so many Canberrans when they leave Canberra? Hope it's a lovely place wherever it is. I love Canberra, definitely won't be leaving anytime soon. Maybe the south coast in a few years.

Hey Shred - I feel for you, and know exactly what you mean. My bipolar medication (or at least the way I've been eating since I started on it) has put bumps on my curves and some days I feel like the Michelin Man. Are you on a mood stabiliser if you don't mind me asking? (No need to answer if you don't want to.) I agree with your NPT. Hard to accept though.

I will lose it. After Christmas. New Year's Resolution. Yep, you betcha. Sigh.

Hi Kaz

No mood stabiliser as yet just AD and Anxiety stuff.Trying to get stable on that is hard enough for me. Trouble is I was an elite athlete for many years and have always been extraordinarily active but no more - due to PTSD and Panic and Depression. I am getting up slowly out of the hole though.Today isn't too bad, and, as they say, a day at a time.

I think you're a champ! Your posts are always helpful

Hey Shred,

...just wanted to say...

You're a champ too.

Now that you've mentioned being an elite-athlete, I can totally understand you a lot more now!.

The way life is for you right now, must be really tough for one that was so used to being active and physically well and fit.

Now is the time to take care of your emotional and mental health too.

As well as, adjust to the meds etc.

What relaxation techniques have you tried that have worked in the past?

And, what techniques interest you more, or more-so, what areas of health techniques?

i.e.

Some of us are more into a spiritual outlook.

Some like the more scientific.

Some like the emotional-freedom stuff...

Which takes your fancy?

Give me a ballpark idea, because I like them all!

I know...It's a bit greedy, but anything that keeps me moving forward in health and happiness, is all good with me.

Get back to me, okay Shred?

MuchLove

Kaitoa

p.s.

I agree KAZ is an absolute champ, and so is everyone here.

PeaceOut

Hey Taurus,

Your NPT look awesome.

Just remember to seek out as many 'positive-activators' for the NPT as you can, as you go about your day.

Keep going babe.

We believe in you.

MuchLove

Kaitoa

Afternoon all,

Kazza,

Dinner was good. Family is everything, I tried my hardest. That's all anyone can ask for.

Taurus,

Bounce. Nice. We are all here for each other. Warts and all.

Nice NPT.

Kaitoa,

I see your spirit again. Bright like a diamond. Im forever grateful, as per usual.

Shreddy,

Keep up that good work! It will all pay off. Im sure your holiday is worth the effort. Just keep that positive attitude!

I had a great swim this arvo. Its was so refreshing.

Mine for the day;

OTT: Can I ever get past an emotion like grief?

NTP: Yes, with dedication, kindness, compassion, acceptance and love. For others and more importantly for "myself".

Let it rain down on everone today.

Have a wounderful evening OTT family.

I am free

Peace

Matt

My sports were always my biggest outlet for dumping the stress and relaxing. I guess I am looking for something else because my body cannot cope with the sport anymore. I am still learning to walk again...and that takes time. Breathing and imagination were always good for me in the past.Maybe they can be again?
