Welcome LGBT+ members and ally to the community.
A few LGBT+ forum users have questions and concerns they can't a find a place to ask it here on the beyond blue forums so I thought starting a place for questions and more serious/heavy conversations 🙂 Here you can ask questions about anything from questioning your sexuality/gender identity, coming out concerns, dating, mental health etc. If you are an ally (an Ally is a person who considers themselves a friend to the LGBTQ+ community) you are also welcome to come here to be a support to our community and ask questions as well. This is a supportive place for people to discuss their questions and concerns, we are not a place of judgement. As Thumper from the movie Bambi said "If you can't say somethin' nice, don't say nothin' at all."
If you are looking for a more social and light hearted conversation might I suggest joining us on the thread under BB social/rainbow cafe. Copy and paste the link: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/online-forums/bb-social-zone/let's-chat-about-anything
Feel free to introduce yourself below and ask any question/s
I thought I'd answer one common question in the intro post and this is one I have heard a lot. What do the letters mean? When referring to the community it is shortened to LGBT+ as there are more letters than just the 4. I have put some of the common ones here: Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Transsexual Two-spirited Queer Questioning Intersex Asexual Ally Pansexual Agender Gender Queer
Welcome everyone and hope to see you around on this thread and around the BB forums
MP 🙂

I am crossing my fingers and toes. I really hope people just vote to allow equality and to save lives so people can be themselves and not someone else.
I also hope they change the sex ed curriculum to discuss more about sexuality. I know not everyone will be for this but talking about sexuality doesn't change ones sexuality. I just want people to be themselves and to be happy

I've just read that Australians have voted YES to marriage equality.
Well done, almost there!

I'm sitting in my local cafe and the song that just came on is "Is this love". How appropriate.
Im not part of the LGBT group but I think if you'e lucky enough to find love in your life you should be allowed to celebrate it.

Same here. Awesome moment. I pushed the voices aside that reminded me that 40% voted no including all my extended family and had an amazing time at a street party.
I'm not normally given to emotion but hugs to all of you. The whole fn country, average jo and joe out there said we are ok! 🙂

Hi Raynor
Like you I felt the same way initially. I thought, wow nearly 40% said no. However then the media helped me look at in a different way. If this was type of election it would have been won by a landslide. The biggest win in history. 80% of people voted even thought it was compulsory even though only 90% (ish) vote on a compulsory election. So thinking about it like this makes me feel ok with it all.

The only way I see her marriage being a sham or joke is if it was a sham wedding in the first place.
If you are against same sex marriage; then don’t have one. Let someone who does want one have it. It’s theirs they can have it and I am very happy for them because it makes them happy. It’s got nothing to do with me. They are doing their thing behind closed doors it’s not against the law.
