It doesn't get any better

It's been 2 years now that i have been seeing doctors near weekly and still my mind is clouded with the question "Why?" Why go on, why bother, life is just too hard, i keep thinking of how to end it, the anti depressants i just came off had me curled up in bed 20 hours a day grinding my teeth and petrified to got out, even now I am off them, i feel it's all pointless.

yes I am afraid of heights, but walked up the mast 45 feet at around 30 - 60 degree to get halyards in jammed.

Introduction. 1970. Number built. Over 6,000. The American Champion 8KCAB Decathlon and Super Decathlon are two-seat fixed conventional gear light airplanes designed for flight training and personal use and capable of sustaining aerobaticstresses between +6g and -5g.

So my psychologist tells me to get out and do something, so I thought its a mining town, I will look for gold, so he agrees that would be good. I got a pan and went to a spot someone recommended to me. I went along this stream panning and found nothing, guess it takes time.

I got home and took my pants off as they were wet from the creek, there were about 10 large leeches on my legs, well after I came to, I managed to scrape therm off with a knife, as it was all I was capable of doing and could think how to do. I got a bump on the head, blood pouring from both legs cold and wet and nothing to show for it.

ewwwww.....leeches.....ouch Baz

I know salt makes them fall off (I think).....you used a knife.....that would have been ugh....you are tougher than I am Barry...seriously....ewww

I have learned in the little research I have done that the 'minelabs' metal detectors do 'go off' when there is even a small piece of gold. As usual there is a price tag....they start at approx $3500 and upwards......but they do work very well

I would be seriously annoyed if I came out of a creek with leeches on me.....ewwwwww....ugh....

I have cold shivers now Baz and Im nowhere near a creek.....ewwww

My Best always and thankyou for being a part of the forum family for so long too 🙂

Dear Barry~

Well you did the right thing, using salt etc can cause the leech to react and infect the wound, scraping them off the right way should not. Insect repellent plus gaiters will stop them. Mind you they used to be a bona fide medical treatment:)

You might well find a little gold, you would not be the first in that area. It's getting a little late in the year but on a nice day it can be fun. I've tried it, the only hassle being telling gold from everything else in the pan (not skillful enough with the 'swish' I guess).

I would not envy you going up that mast! I bungy-jumped once and that was quite enough of heights to last a lifetime.

Just passing out here, hitting my head on the way down, luckily i dropped the knife and it landed flat becoming to sometime later. I had never seen a leech before and it was all too much

Thanks, next time I think I will wear my old deep sea Dry Suit, it is a Viking Pro Dry Suit, the Search and Rescue type with moulded gloves that are acid resistant, it also has moulded boots and a neoprene neck, the only place leeches could get at is my head.

Being up the mast that high with it gyrating 30 feet in any direction makes it even harder, but you can nearly walk up with the yacht on a lean.

The best days to find the gold is a day after rain where it has uncovered some new stuff and clears away the rest

PS I didnt try salt, burning them off is another way

Dear Barry~

That's a good thought about panning after rain. I'd not want to be you in a dry suit, I'd swelter.

As far as I know - with mainland leaches anyway - is that burning or salt makes them introduce material back into the wound and that might cause the infection.

Not my favorite animals either. Never tried a metal detector for gold, only in car parks.

Hi Barry

I hope your day was good to you

You gave me a laugh when you mentioned "I will wear my old deep sea Dry Suit, it is a Viking Pro Dry Suit, the
Search and Rescue type with moulded gloves that are acid resistant, it also has moulded boots and a neoprene neck
"

Do you have your diving certificate still? That takes serious courage Barry. I have issues standing on a pier let alone deep underneath it!

My kindest always

Paul

well I have been stuck in bed past 4 days, just feel like I have had enough, the mood stabilizing tablets just aren't working
