Anyone had to spend days alone without anyone to talk to?

Hi all, apart from here and a brief visit to church last night (to make it feel Christmassy and to just be with people) I've had day after day for weeks now with nobody at all to talk to. This time of year especially it's really depressing. Old friends that live far away are gradually losing contact with me - I ring them but they don't ring me. I understand they're busy with their live elsewhere but still it's hard when you're lonely. I'm going to a Christmas Eve service at the local church tomorrow night to at least be with people for a little while... but otherwise all day I'm alone, just me and the dog. Sometimes I strike up a conversation on BB but then the other person disappears and that's the end of that...
How are people meant to cope with prolonged periods of social isolation? I read, I watch DVDs, normally I'd go for long walks with the dog but thick smoke from bushfires and intense hot weather have stopped that. I go to a café alone sometimes. Any ideas/help?

Hi Grandy
Thank you for coming by. Because it's public housing I have to inform Housing who sent a plumber. Turns out there are old bricks under the lawn for storm water but it's not coping after all the rain so there is nothing the plumber can do.
It's so bad it's hard to get to my car without sliding over. Water is pouring down the yard into the road and more rain is forecast all next week. It's dangerous for me to try to walk from the front porch to the car but of course I have to to go anywhere!
He said they had given Housing a quote on fixing this and the leaking gutters a couple of years ago but nothing has been done.
On top of that, Vision Australia in O town is not organising an Occupational therapist to come to assess the house. They said I'll just have to find a bulk billing eye specialist to get them an updated report and for that I'd have to go to Sydney where I'd have to stay overnight. I wonder how they think I can afford all that.
So I will have to go back to my GP and see if she can organise for an OT to come.
I feel that nothing will be done until I have an accident. It's dreadful. My GP wrote to Housing and told them I need to be moved urgently as I will have a fall, but they have said they won't do this without an OT report.
I'm very unhappy with Vision Australia and talked to an old friend in coastal town whose mother was blind for the last few years of her life and my friend said she found Vision Australia useless and they gave her mother no help either.
I'm so tired of worrying about this house and now even stepping foot out the door is dangerous! Good grief.
Thank you for popping by here Grandy!

Hello Hanna,
Oh lass that is so pathetic of Vision Australia to not send someone... you shouldn't have to do all this run around... I'm actually really angry on your behalf... they get money from the government to support everyone... it's not as if you live back of the never never... they must have contact with OTs in regional areas who can act on their behalf... plus they know you are in public housing so it should be bloody obvious that you couldn't afford to go to Sydney.
Just a thought but might it be worth getting in touch with the Royal Society for the Blind?... they do all vision levels & might have someone out your way.
Then to have a river running through your yard on top of everything else... I'm starting to think that house is cursed.
Sending you a big supportive hug
Paws

Hi paws
Not to worry I'm getting used to this sort of thing, all these services are underfunded. I'm photographing the water in the front yard, so when I do get an OT it will be a bit more evidence.
I've been out having lunch with a friend and I'm home latish and tired as it's muggy here. Going to take Sam for a stroll soon.
My eye specialist didn't bother to write a report to my GP at the last visit, so that goes against me, but my GP didn't feel the need to chase it up.
Whatever, I'm off for a stroll and then an easy evening. How is your relative in the city, any news about you visiting her?

Hi Hanna, Paws, Grandy and all reading,
Sorry to read about the lake in your garden, didn't realise it was that bad! Hope you receive some help from all the people who need to be there for you.
Also hope you enjoyed your walk. I might take a short wander in our garden before work today.

Hi Grandy and Dools and Paws and everyone
Thanks for your messages, yes we are fine thank you for checking. It's very busy lately and I'm a bit tired. I have a friend in hospital and lots of music practice to do and it's quite hot and stormy here.
Things will probably quieten down after the next couple of weeks.
I hope everyone is well. Sam says thank you for the fur kids cuddles!

Hi Hanna,
Just dropping in to say Hello. Hope your friend in hospital is doing okay. All the best with the music practise.
We've had some hot days here. It is a bit cooler this morning which is good as I need to try and saw up a tree that has fallen down. Well at least as much of the tree as I can!

Hi Dools and Paws and Grandy Katy everyone
Gosh it was hot here yesterday, too sudden for me after all the cool weather and rain. Better today thank goodness!
The shops are very busy with Christmas shopping now. I don't have any plans for Xmas yet and with covid and lock downs it doesn't feel like Xmas to me!Wierd.
I hope everyone is keeping well. Just wanted to say hi to you all!
Trying to post and read things on the tiny phone screen is very tricky!
Hugs all round! 🙂🌼🐾🐾🐕🍀🎶💖
