Anyone had to spend days alone without anyone to talk to?

Hi all, apart from here and a brief visit to church last night (to make it feel Christmassy and to just be with people) I've had day after day for weeks now with nobody at all to talk to. This time of year especially it's really depressing. Old friends that live far away are gradually losing contact with me - I ring them but they don't ring me. I understand they're busy with their live elsewhere but still it's hard when you're lonely. I'm going to a Christmas Eve service at the local church tomorrow night to at least be with people for a little while... but otherwise all day I'm alone, just me and the dog. Sometimes I strike up a conversation on BB but then the other person disappears and that's the end of that...

How are people meant to cope with prolonged periods of social isolation? I read, I watch DVDs, normally I'd go for long walks with the dog but thick smoke from bushfires and intense hot weather have stopped that. I go to a café alone sometimes. Any ideas/help?

Hi Dools and thank you for your kind wishes. We slept in so I'm running late today but yes Sam seems a bit brighter today. I saw somewhere you have to tell unvaccinated people not to enter, that must be stressful as I can imagine some people would be incredibly difficult to deal with. I hope they're not abusive to you, you don't need that in top of everything else.

It's mid afternoon and all I've done is a bit of grocery shopping and a short walk with Sam!

Music is back this week which is good. I wish the library was open but that's happening next week.

Are you keeping OK? 🥀🍃

Hello Hanna,

Oh that is such good news about Sam feeling brighter... especially that he felt up to a walk.

Double good news... you won't know yourself being able to go to music & then the library next week as well... I'm sure it must feel like it has been forever since you last went.

I watched insight on SBS last night as it was about emotional eating... it was the first time I watched it since Brockie left... I found it missing that something that keeps your interest... not sure if it was because of how few people they had (covid limits)... or if it was the host herself, not having that knack of guiding the conversation.

Hugs

Hi Paws

Yes music today and the library opens next week hooray! I've been really missing the library!!!

I desperately need some summer clothes and I've been missing my regular trips to the other big town - I had planned regular trips there during spring as it's so glorious there then as it's alpine and the flowers and blossom trees are so lovely but we've missed most of the spring and it's raining all this week so we aren't going. Plus Sam's been sick now.

I forgot about Insight the other night I was watching a movie on SBS about Borg and McEnroe and the tennis which was great. I must remember to check when it's on. Sounds like it wasn't a great episode?

Big thunderstorms forecast here today. Bad timing when I have to get out and about carrying musical instruments! Sam gets scared too and I will have to leave him at home alone.

What's the weather like down your way? Any news of your friend who is sick?

Hi Hanna, Paws and all reading,

Hope you manage to get to music today and the thunderstorm is not too bad. Some animals can be quite frightened by the stormy weather. Our cat seems to know hours before a thunderstorm gets here, she hides somewhere and won't come out.

Here in S.A. at my work place, we do Covid vax checks for staff and volunteers, not visitors and anyone one else entering the building at present.

I have a hard enough time with some people trying to check their flu vaccine record. All people need that to enter our business. Some people think it is okay to yell at me for ages because they never asked for verification of their flu vaccine.

Hope Sam continues to get well. Wishing everyone a comfortable and safe re-entering into the world!

Cheers from Dools

Hanna and everyone reading

just dropping in to say hi to everyone snd catch up on everyone’s news.

I miss the library too.

It has been raining here for 3 days and nights.

Dools I had a printed proof of vax and was glad I did as my phone was playing up. People said why have you a printed form but I am glad I did.

Paws Inthink when a new presenter takes over it can take a while to get used to a new style and for host to find their way and their own way of presenting. I like insight but I have found it can be great or not great . For me it depends on the topic and the guests maybe more than the host.
Take care everyone.

Hi quirky

Nice to see you here! We have rolling thunderstorms here today.

I got a printed copy of my vaccination certificate too for the same reason - what if my phone acts up! So I feel more secure having two ways to show it.

I agree it must be hard to be a presenter on these programs but Jenny Brockie is hard to beat she was so good!

How are things with you lately?

I'm off to music this arvo a bit late as my teacher is still juggling zoom lessons for the unvaccinate kids.

I'll be dodging huge storms on my way there!

Hi Dools

Some people are so rude, yelling at you. That must be hard to take. My hairdresser said on her Facebook page that clients were being abusive because she wouldn't open up during the lockdown and she pointed out that she'd lose her licence plus get a massive fine if she did. You'd think people would know it was a government order.

Finish later have to run a storms coming up!

Hello Hanna, Dools, Quirky,

Thunderstorms all afternoon here too... very weird sky... clear blue with a few fluffy clouds to the south... black thunderstorm clouds with heavy rain & lightning over head & to the north... it was a very clean cut distinction between the two... the storms seem to have finally passed as Woofa has finally calmed down.

How is Sam this evening?

hugs

Hi Paws and everyone

I'm late home and another storm never happened! It looked like a huge storm was about to hit and it vanished.

Sam had to stay home alone so he's very tired as he's still under the weather from the infection and then being alone for long always stresses him. Normally I'd keep him in the car with Windows down if it's not warm as he feels safe inn the car, but he has to be able to wee regularly so I couldn't do that.

The rigmarole to get into music! Vaccination certificate and sign in of course but also a record of your vaccination certificate number and masks worn even in the lesson and no touching of anyone else's instruments allowed.

Paws any news of your relative in the city?

Dools, I'm sorry I had to dash in mid-text this morning a huge storm came up fast! How did work go today, were people courteous to you I hope?

I'm off to have some late dinner!

Hi Hanna, Paws, Quirky and all reading,

Hello to you all, hope those of you with pets are enjoying their company, hope Sam improves Hanna.

I feel for all the people in any capacity who are in the front line, taking abuse from angry people. I understand people are frustrated and confused. Just don't take it out on people who are trying to abide to the rules that are required now due to Covid.

Unfortunately it is a different world.

Having a paper copy of your vaccination is handy. Some people don't know how to provide a copy of their vaccinations from their phone, our business requires a copy for our records.

Hope you all have a good day. Cheers from Dools
