Hi guys. I have been battling depression and anxiety for 2 weeks now and my doc has put me on anti depressants and sleeping tablets. What I want to know is . I have quick thoughts of harming people and myself but when I have those thoughts I feel disgusted and sick to my stomach. My doc , psychiatrist and social worker says that's part of the depression process and it will pass when the medicine kicks in. Has anyone experienced this???

Hello mariannek, can I ask you if you are also suffering from OCD, because intrusive thoughts are associated with this illness, if not then I'll also get back to you.

No I don't. My psychiatrist told me thoughts come with depression and they are only thoughts I feel sick when I have them but then I block them out so I don't dwell and get even more depressed. I'm waiting for my meds to kick in

Hello Mariannek
I'm glad to see you are being cared for by your GP, psychiatrist & a social worker, who are giving you good advice.
As I understand the meds generally take a while before the effects are felt. & there can be side'effects, so any unusal thoughts or feelings, emotional or physical, which you may experience, you need to tell them about. Ask them questions, too, about any doubts or concerns you have, especially if the thoughts or feelings have only happened since beginning these new meds.
You are welcome to keep in touch with us, let us know how you are going, to talk here about things on your mind, as much or as little as you like.
I like the idea of diverting your attention away from those thoughts. I know, it's not always easy to do.
From my own experience, I learned to let the ideas flow as a river around me, then flow on by... just as water, thoughts are no more than thoughts. Feelings too, are only feelings. It became somewhat like watching a film, a fiction, nothing to take any action over or to take seriously at all. Fpr me, it took a change of how I regarded the thoughts & feelings, a change of mind, if you like. That was all. It seems simple now, but wasn't at the time.
