Hi I suffer from major Depressive and anxiety disorder and have been for the last 5 years. I have been on Newstart allowance and now they are giving me the runaround so I was told by them do apply for the dsp.

My my question is has anybody recently applied for it and how’d you do?? I have an appointment tomorrow for a job assessment before they make a decision which I don’t understand and I’m already receiveing calls my a job employer wanting to book an appoint with them.

Any tips ops you could give? I have given all my paper work in including letters from gp and psychiatrist. Just unsure if I have enough.

I was read some forum posts from a couple years ago saying it was extremely hard so just want to know if anything’s changes?

It's not extremly hard. Daunting and scary for us because our anxiety is exaggerating things in our own minds on us but not hard. You already have all the answers to their questions because it is entirly based on you so, be assured that whilst it will be emotional for you it will not be hard.

They are not their to judge you, they are their to listen and assist you in the way that is best for you. Be you and be honest.

Thanks for your input, I understand. Just heard they decline a lot lately

Well it’s just as hard as they say. Got a no after providing everything they wanted and the job agency has already booked me an appointment to start a job search. Definetly will be appealing but not holding my breath. Apparently cause I’m under 35 they crack down harder.

I wasn't expecting that. I don't know what to say. I am sorry but you could do no more no less then be yourself.

I have just remembered something else but it's more or less out of your hands and your not going to like it. No matter what you say if your doctor did not fill in the forms a specific way when assessing you then you will be rejected automatically. The doctors can't predict who will get assistance but they know who won't. That of course does not mean your doctor knew. The final "yes" is out of your doctor's hands.

Did you get given a reason as to why they felt you were still capable of working whilst in this state?

Hi Robb, I understand the situation you're in, and sorry but it would be highly likely that they will refuse the first, second or whatever application, it's not something Centrelink hands out like pamphlets.

Perhaps you could get your doctor and psychiatrist to reword their letter, the latter may charge you a fee, depends on the connection you have with them.

Copy and paste this link 'https://guides.dss.gov.au › guide-social-security-law' and let us know what you think.

Best wishes.

Geoff.

It’s been about 3 months since I first handed in the forms so my minds a bit hazy but nowadays the doctor doesn’t fill in forms. I personally fill in the form then you get a letter from your doctor and psychiatrist as proof and back up. Then after a job assessment interview the person contacts you doctors and has a chat.
il add both my doctors are totally on my side and the letters they wrote were totally in my favour. The conclusion was I’m able to work 4 hours a week and able to study a course so they deemed it a no.
im going to see if the my doctor can add more detail in an appeal letter but to me it’s like they are looking for people who are totally unable to look after themselves.

I can’t seem to open that page.
I Found an Impairment Table on the DSS website.

clearly under mental illness table 5 impairment of 20 points I fall under 4 subjects so I guess I have something to back me up
