I am not sure where to post, but here goes:

3 years ago i got an infection in my leg which needed imidiate surgery to fix. 5 months later finally able to walk and go vack to work
Other infections (due to diabetties) resulted in me loosing one toe , then another, then 3 more, then more of my foot , until the doctors felt it would be best to remove the foot below the knee
Up until that decision i had deep depression, but once i made the decision i became happy , i could now move on with my life
Leg came off xmas 2019 , some complications but healling has been slower than expected
I cannot work, and i am self employed, 3 years of working for a few months then taking time off for surgeries has taken a toll on finances
They have tried to fit a prosthetic but the fitting is not going well
I cannot walk
I cannot drive
I have no money left
I don't know if i will ever walk or if i will be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of my life
I have not slept properly in 6 months
I have spoken to doctors, and psycologists and their only advice is to be patient

Im not able to handle not being in control of my life

Hi Pete66,
Thanks for reaching out to this community tonight. We understand it can be hard to post for the first time so we are grateful that you had the courage to make that decision. We're so sorry to hear about what you've gone through. We understand that these experiences and the feeling of being out of control must be overwhelming. Please know that you're not alone, our community is here to support you.

Can we ask if you are you currently receiving mental health support? You mentioned that you have spoken to doctors and psychologists previously. You might be able to get some support for insomnia. If you are not already seeing a professional that you are happy with, we would urge that you do seek professional support to help you work through t that you're experiencing. If you are not sure of how to access mental health support, please contact the Beyond Blue Support Service anytime on 1300 22 4636 or get in touch with us on Webchat 3pm-12am AEST here: www.beyondblue.org.au/getsupport

One of the friendly counsellors can offer you some support but also provide you with advice and referrals for seeing a counsellor in a more ongoing way.

Hopefully a few of our community members will pop by over the next few days with some words of welcome. If you would like to post further, please tell us more about what's on your mind and how we can best help support you.

Hi Pete66

I cant say that I understand how you feel as I dont...Yet I can see that you have been in a dark place Pete

Can I ask if you have one or two people (a support network) that you can lean on? I cant even begin to comprehend what you have been through. I used to have chronic anxiety followed by depression since 1983 and on AD's since 1996...

There is no judgement on the forums as we have a super proactive moderation team

Can I ask if your GP provides you with the support you require?

we are here and listening Pete66... Great to have you as part of the Beyond Blue forum Family too!

Im Paul....great to meet you

I'm 55yo sibgle guy
My parents care, but are having trouble understanding me going though amputations, let alone the mental issues
My adult son has always know me to be strong and to have the answers , he is upset that dad might not always be there

My GP sucks, i need a new one

Hey Pete

Your son is caring for having the empathy with what you are going through....Of course he would be upset if his dad wasnt around anymore...

Its good that your parents care the way they do Pete....Can I ask why they have trouble understanding the amputations you have been going through? Is it because they dont know what to say?

What is your GP doing that bugs you? I have been seeing my GP every month with my depression for 24 years for a 'tune up'

How are you feeling Pete?

my kind thoughts

Paul

'How do I feel?'
Angry, impotent , usless

It does not matter if i have a positive attitude or not, i am stuck with a problem that is out of my control , and bo matter how hard i look , there is no way to deal with it metally other than to 'suck it up '

Hi Pete66

I wouldnt mention 'having a positive attitude' after what you have been through. I cant understand what you have been through as I havent been through what you have Pete

Can I ask if your GP provides you some help at all? (reassurance...respect....acknowledgment...kindness??)

These forums are safe and non judgemental Pete....I hope you can stick around...seriously

my kind thoughts....Paul

@blondguy, sadly i don't feel that this forum is fo me

To anyone else reading;
Its OK, life is confusing no matter if you are 15, 25 or even 55. Dont try to reach the summit in one leap, but take small steps forward and you will reach your goals

Hey Pete

can I ask why you feel the forums arent for for you?......(if thats okay)

Pete66 mentioned "life is confusing no matter if you are 15, 25 or even 55. Dont try to reach the summit in one leap, but take small steps forward and you will reach your goals"

Thanks for the great post Pete

How was your day?

Paul

Pete,

sorry to here of your plight

Unfortunately from others viewpoint injecting motivation techniques and positive vibes (as Paul has done) is all we can do, our hands are tied.

Often we don’t know if the poster needs this or not, indeed posters nerds can range from a simple vent to ongoing needs of support. We often don’t know for some time after their initial post.

Often I try to ask the poster to look at what they have, rather than what they’ve lost. Eg you can grow appreciation for viewing wonders of life as you still can see, touch, do hobbies etc. Add to that letting go of things you didn’t think you could let go of eg your work and some toxic relationships.

You know your situation better than us- they are only suggestions but we do get members here that don’t consider the obvious and the need for change.

My brother (type 1 diabetic ) took his life in 1979. I tried in 1996, my sister tried 1998. My sister and I didn’t know till 2009 that we and likely our brother have bipolar. Since then along with correct meds we have prospered- we’ll survived better.

I had, in 1982, found positive motivation but that didn’t prevent my ordeals. However I draw in positive thinking daily.

If you don’t mind can you place the following topics in the search bar on top of the page- give them a chance please.

meditation he helped me for 25 years- Maharaji

30 minutes can change your life

focus and never ever give up

Id also recommend the poetry corner if you don’t mind poetry- some uplifting poems there that can change ones perspective on everything.

I hope we can continue to chat and collectively with Paul we can bring new light on your future

TonyWK
