Dear Depression, an open letter to my constant companion

Dear depression,

You may have won the battle but you have not won the war. I forget what a sneaky A-hole you can be!!!I know you are stalking me and I take delight in knowing your confusion today when trying to find me. I am not where you presumed me to be. Were you surprised when you checked the bedroom? Expecting to find me curled up crying with the curtains drawn so you could climb in beside me and whisper you evil sweet nothings in my ear. No dear constant companion, I refuse to do that today. It may surprise you to learn that whilst you skulk around the corner I have been out walking with the dog (oh I sense how you loathe that puppy that chases you away). My garden is watered, the courtyard swept, the poop patrol done all without your constant dark neediness. I have taken and posted my photo for today, yes yes you abhor the pleasure I get from being creative.I can hear you, I can almost smell you, I feel you whining and grasping but I won't be playing with you today.Today you will lurk and I will give you no power.Until we play again, yours truly, Me

Hi Bubblemum,

I'm impressed by your strength. Writing is a great outlet, and is a great skill to practice. I hope you are able to keep fighting, and keep drawing on your strengths. Having distractions like your gardening and dog-walking is really helpful. Don't be afraid to also reach out to family and friends, if you haven't been doing so already.

Good luck with fighting off depression!

Best wishes,

SM

Thank you SM

im blessed with a very clinical approach to my 'condition' and continue to kick its butt and win daily 🙂 (well, most days haha)

I refuse to suffer from depression and instead I choose to live with it - it's a funny old life but it's mine 😀

Hi Bubblemum!

What a talented writer you are! I love this piece you have written - it sounds like you find it a wonderful outlet, as many of us do. It is good to hear that you are keeping yourself busy. It's also wonderful that you don't let your condition define you - it's something that so many sufferers struggle with, and I think this idea of writing a letter to it as though it were another being is a really awesome approach!

I hope other people see this and it inspires them, because it is so refreshing to see this! Well done and keep it up!

Dear bubblemum

Absolutely awesome.

Loved your post, loved your letter.

So well described and it was like we were there with you – I guess cause we’ve all experienced the issues you’ve raised.

I sure hope that a lot of people on this site read your letter.  It’s a ripper.

Kind regards

Neil

Wow, congratulations.  I'm with you 100%.  Depression, be alone with your own misery.  I have found faith in my church and Christian friends.  Depression is Satan's playmate, not mine.

Thank you so much Neil!! I too hope this letter reaches those who need it, I think as much for the loved ones of those living with depression - I know when I first wrote and posted this on my Facebook page many many were surprised at just how hard it is to constantly battle *sighs wearily* TODAY is a new day, hope you win!! 😀
