better people have it worse but...

I'm 35 off meds but they messed with my head too much and don't solve the issues of the character flaws I must have, I have always had. Better people have it much worse , i know, i know, but i'm really getting tired of it all. It's like anything to help is just like putting the braindead on life support. I've no hope and no forthcoming solution but dont fret, I'm too weak for suicide.

Hi BauhnKeyboard,

You said that 'better people have it worse'. I want to call you on that. There will always be someone who is having a better day than you and a worse day than you. Truth is, that doesn't change anything. What you're feeling is still valid. If you are struggling, you're struggling. There's no need to compare your life to someone else's. That's basically why we are here - because all of our lives matter (or we want them too anyway).

Thank you for coming to this forum. Feel free to browse around and post again or post on the threads. There's a lot of people on here so I'm sure you'll be able to find someone that you can relate to.

Hi BauhnKeyboard. While it's true the medication won't make any difference to the personality 'flaws' you've mentioned. What the AD's do is help the imbalances in the brain function so you start feeling better and less stressed. With depression, especially when it's been ongoing, the brain becomes 'scrambled' for lack of another word and our thoughts get mixed up. Once the AD's kick in this helps our brain 'unscramble' and our thoughts become clearer and we function better. The 'down' side to this process unfortunately, is the time it takes for the AD's to actually start working. However, usually after a couple of weeks more or less, we do start feeling better and we start functioning better. If you are having problems adjusting to your AD's, perhaps a visit to your Dr might reassure you. It's possible the dosage has to be adjusted/changed. No-one is better or worse than anyone else, we just function differently and some people handle stress/depression better than others. This is no reflection on you or me, the AD's will help you, it's just unfortunate you have to be a bit of a guinea pig till the right dosage is sorted. This usually means 2 or 3 trips to the Drs. Tiresome, I know, but worthwhile for the long term benefits.

hello BK, we always believe that by taking AD will naturally solve all our problems and stop the depression we are struggling with, but they don't, what they do is to make us have a clearer head so that we work through our problems with an even mind, because when we are depressed and not medicated all our negative thoughts continually punish us, but when you are taking AD these thoughts do still happen but you are able to solve them.
OK this is what we expect to happen but there are times when this doesn't happen, so then we have to find an alternative which your psychologist could help you with.
Can I ask you a question or two and only answer if you want to, are you in a relationship, work or living by yourself, this will just help us to know your cicumstances a bit. Geoff.
