The Velveteen Rabbit

I was introduced to this story last week by a colleague in another group. She was providing me emotional support during some particularly traumatic child contact issues. It is a children's book first published in 1922. It is about a toy rabbit that comes alive due to the love of a child. It is all about being genuine. It rang true with me and made me cry. The take home message for me is to believe in yourself.

Hey Rob

The Velveteen Rabbit....Published 1922....I think I will cry too if I read it but crying is a sign of strength so I will find/google the book and read it...and thankyou Rob...I will let you know how I feel after I read it...

Appreciate it...Thanks for being on line too

Paul

One of the side effects of my recovery is insomnia. My brain seems to be on 24/7.

I remember the Insomnia Rob....ugh!...As you just said....a tired mind that is racing wont stop revving...

This will really sound useless at 4:12am...Find the most boring movie you can.....put it on...and use a couch..not a chair...I would be surprised if you can stay awake more than 20 minutes....

Sorry about the silly idea...Just thought Id mention it...

I hope you are on tomorrow Rob....I will be on here roundabout midday....

You have some great ideas here....I hope you continue to share them...I have already borrowed a couple 🙂

Be Kind to Yourself mate

Hi Roberty_Bob (great name!) Welcome to the forum.

I just wanted to mention that there are a few members who have trouble sleeping and they often gather in the BB Cafe of a nighttime. Lovely bunch, and I know they would make you welcome if you want to join them sometime.

Oh, and it doesn't have to be at night. The cafe is open 24/7 and you can get any kind of food or drink you want there, we have a large screen TV, swimming pool, a tree house, beautiful gardens, a stream, assorted pets, quiet corners with comfy sofas for chilling out alone, and tables and chairs for sitting in a group. And lots of good company. Check it out under this board (Community).

I hope to get to know you.

Cheers

Hi Roberty-Bob,

I was first introduced to The Velveteen Rabbit when I was preparing to marry. My celebrant had a quote from it along with other passages people often have for weddings. I loved it so much. I didn't choose it for my wedding because I knew it would make me cry but I read the book and loved it.

There is even a Golden Book version for kids. I bought this for mine as it's never to early, to quote Paul, to be kind to yourself.

"Once you become Real you can't become unreal again. It lasts for always".

Hope to see you in the BB Cafe some time.

Cheers, Carol

Nice story Carol. I don't like to cry but sometimes my eyes leak.

I found a copy this afternoon in a specialist children's bookshop. It was the original story and illustrations. I had to buy it for the children.

Roberty-Bob that sounds wonderful...I have book envy.

My home is full of books I have 3 large walls over 2 rooms lined with bookcases and books. My 3 children also have a lot of books in their rooms and each bedside table has a pile of books in progress.

I also have a kindle that I read my bookclub books on. However I always buy a "real" version of ones I love or any by my favourite authors.

Do you have a favourite author?

Cheers, Carol
