Positive thread - any suggestions (games, coping strategies, anything at all)?

Hi everyone. I'm Tayla and I'm 20, posted here a few times.

I thought I'd try and make a positive thread, for anyone to get involved in, to hopefully chat to new and previous people I've talked to on here, anyone. Here's some suggestions below, comment (if anyone is up to it) whatever you like.

  • Game suggestions (for example there's one on this BB Social Zone "Movies A-Z").
  • What music you like (bands, songs, albums, anything) to introduce people, & see if you have any interests.
  • Anything that helps you cope with anything, any coping strategies at all.
  • Movies you like.
  • Books you like.
  • TV Shows you like.
  • Anything at all you'd like to discuss - positive stuff such as inspiring quotes, anything happy!

Feel free to comment whatever you like, that goes for anyone, if you feel comfortable. I hope to hear from some people, new and previous ones I've talked to. I hope this thread is alright to post & brings some happiness & socialisation to these BB Forums.

Thanks!

Tayla x

Hi everyone!

My biggest coping strategy is definitely distraction/keeping busy. Some things I do:

- watching tv (movies, tv series, documentaries) (I like horror, comedy, romance, drama, etc. I've been watching Vampire Diaries at the moment and just finished the movie Unfriended: Dark Web)

- playing video games (my faves are Skyrim, The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, Grand Theft Auto, Bioshock, Detroit: Become Human to name a few. Beware: some of those are M/MA/R rated. I just got one of the Uncharted games on playstation which is really fun)

- learning to play piano (using the 'simply piano' app)

- art (I just bought a bunch of art supplies to get back into it! There are lots of tutorials on youtube. Even if you just have a pencil and paper!)

- having a cup of tea and browsing social media (reddit, facebook, beyond blue, and interacting with people. AskReddit on reddit is super fun as you can answer questions and discuss with others)

- photography (FYI you can get really nice photos from a smart phone too, there are lots of tutorials on youtube!)

- astronomy (at night I like to go outside and watch the stars, sometimes you can see a shooting star or a satellite go by. There is a great app called 'satellites' which shows the position of all the satellites in the sky, or even identify the one you're looking at. My family and I saw a really bright one go by one night, we were able to identify it as some space junk that had come from a rocket that went up many years ago. Another app is 'skyview' which lets you identify all the stars/planets in the sky. This is super fun and I highly recommend!)

- learning new things (think of a subject you like and do some reading about it)

- listening to music, audiobook or podcast (Tomorrow When the War Began books I find are really good on audiobook as you can put it on in the background. They can be a little repetitive, however, it's nice and familiar to listen to as the lady reading it has an Aussie accent).

- writing out some positive quotes or my goals and putting them on display (I always have my goals up in my bedroom and update them as needed. You can use super fun fonts, colours and images. Even if it is just simple things like, 'practice mindfulness', 'drink enough water', 'shower everyday' - that's awesome)

I could probably go on forever. I hope this list helps someone. There is always something to learn or be a part of. I wish all of you the best! 🙂

That is a very good list of things Jemma. You have given me the idea to go out and look at the stars. I have done that before but have forgotten all about it. I particularly like the idea of those apps. So I am going to look into those.

I do like how you are learning the piano too.

Anyway thanks heaps Jemma

Hi Shelll!

You're welcome. I'm glad to hear the list has helped. I hope you enjoy stargazing and looking at those apps. I'm trying to recall if they are free or not. If you need free ones, you can search for them on the app store/play store. Have fun! Let us know how you go!

Thanks! The piano is super fun!

Hope you have a great day 🙂

Hi Tayla!

Great thread suggestion 🙂

Here are some things that I like...

Music: predominantly listen to tribal beats, techno, jazz, funk and soul. Some of my favorites include Fat Freddy's Drop, Porangui, DAVI, Metodi Hristov, Bon Iver, Christian Smith, Air, Nightmares On Wax, Stavroz, Richie Hawtin, Bonobo, OCNO and Be Svendsen.

TV: Narcos, Chef's Table, Dexter, Big Mouth, Arrested Development, Seinfeld, Breaking Bad, South Park, Rick & Morty and The Simpsons (back in the day) off the top of my head.

Books: love getting lost in fiction, but also very interested in sport, business, psychology, philosophy and spirituality. Just read "Conversations With Friends" by Sally Rooney which was brilliant!

Have a lovely day and night all 🙂
