Hi guys,
I was inspired by Neil's thread about favourite movies. I want to know - what are some of your favourite bands/musicians?
Do you have an album that you listen to over and over? Is there a songwriter who you connect with, that seem like they draw their lyrics directly from your soul? What is your favourite style of music? Who did you grow up listening to?
Are you a musician yourself?
And importantly, I'm always looking to discover another band or genre so if you have any suggestions of a great song let me know so that I can look it up 🙂
As for me, I don't really like most of the stuff that gets played on the radio. The lyrics seem meaningless to me, and the songs are mostly produced just to make money - not to connect with an audience or tell a story. I prefer songs and artists that are sincere and genuine, that confront important and real life topics or are emotionally touching. that doesn't mean I live for slow ballads... no, I listen to all kinds of music, fast paced - slow and rhythmic, rap, hip hop, jazz, folk, rock, alternative, metal.... I love it so long as it has some depth.
I'm currently hooked on a band called Twenty One Pilots. I love em! Also, I recently discovered a genre called Nerdcore which is rapping about nerdy stuff like computer games and everyday events etc... I love rap but I don't love a lot of the language or topics that are usually rapped about, so chilling out to some lighthearted Nerdcore works for me 🙂

Yes Cat Stevens (before he became Yousef) had a few hit songs in the early 1970's. That was about the time I started to follow music. Used to listen to his music on our way to school on the school bus. We had to travel for about an hour and a half each way, so needed something to occupy our minds.
Songs like: Peace Train, Moon Shadow, Morning Has Broken, Father & Son.
Yes he had a lovely voice.

I think we started listening to music around the same time. My first bought album was The Eagles - Hotel California in 1975. At our school we had 2 main groups of fans. One was David Bowie supporters the other Neil Young.
P.S. I like the little dog in the picture. He looks very smart and alert!
A big favourite of mine too was Boston! They sang "More Than A Feeling"

Hi TMB. The profile picture is my little dog Holly. She's a great little dog. She's my little 4.5 kg bundle of love and energy. Mini foxie x chihuahua. And yes she's a clever little thing.
My first albums would also have been bought in 1975 or 1976. First albums were Neil Diamond, Cliff Richards and Fleetwood Mac.

Hot August Night - What an album!.
First concert, 1976, I saw Thin Lizzy. They were a very popular band at the time.

Boris sounds like a great pet. Do you have a pet now, of any sort?
Yes I still have the Hot August Night album. And yes I remember Thin Lizzie. ( - :
First Concert??? Mmm, probably Cliff Richard, but I dont remember what year it was. Most likely in the 80's.
I also saw Jon English at my local RSL way back in maybe the late 70's? So he was probably the first live act I ever went to. He toured as a solo performer back then to a lot of little country towns.

You still have H.A.N. album wow!
Jon English was a great talent. He was on the tv in Against The Wind (I think) and I'm pretty sure he played Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar. Trevor White played Jesus. If my memory serves me correctly I saw J.C.S. in Sydney in 1977. Seeing him at your local RSL would've been awesome. Last concert - Bowie, 2004.

I have heard of Bread but can't recall any of their songs. In fact I don't really know a lot about them. I think the main guy was David Gates? but I'm not sure.
Last concert was David Bowie in 2004. He was excellent.
Hi Kaz, Thanks for the welcome back. No, I didn't know you had a jukebox installed in the cafe. Sounds interesting. Anything I want? That's tempting! May pop over some time. Nice to see you again too. TMB
