Hey guys this is my first post I recently was diagnosed with GAD which explained a lot, like why I was always tired ,fatigued ,trouble sleeping and avoiding certain situations. The last 2 weeks things got alot worse having big anxiety attacks which has started impacting my work and social life. I am taking medication at the moment which is a being aid I guess but I am going to a psychologist tomorrow to see what help I can get there but I am unsure why I am getting anxious and having attacks the timing is very random and situation so I was curious if anyone could possibly shed some light on what going to the psychologist is like as that is making me anxious

Hello Markymark313..

A very warm and caring welcome to our forums...

I remember the first time I seen a psychologist..I didn’t sleep for a few nights and through the day I would..I suppose you could say..had so many scenarios going around in my head..that my anxiety caused me to have an anxiety attack....I was so full of anxiety that I couldn’t function properly....

The day came..I walked into her office and we introduced ourselves to each other,..then to understand me and what I was going through, she asked me a heap of questions..very easy questions and it was up to me if I wanted to answer them or not...

Every psychologist works differently, but I’m certain that most of them ask questions to get to know you...so they have an idea what your going through and how best to help you...

Ivwish you all the best wishes I can for tomorrow..Please try hard not to be very anxious if you can.....Hard I know....But also try to remember that your psychologist is their to help you the best they can...

Talk here anytime you feel up to it..and also would be nice if you could keep us updated on how your visit with your psychologist goes tomorrow...

My kindest thoughts Dear Markymark..

Grandy..

Hi Markymark,

Wellcome to our forums!

Sorry you have been feeling this way I know anxiety can be debilitating and overwhelming….

I also wanted to say I think it’s fantastic you are seeing a psychologist…. Well done

I had severe anxiety OCD and thanks to help I received from professionals ( including a psychologist) I am now recovered.

Seeing a psychologist can make us feel anxious…… it’s the unknown…. But once you have seen your psychologist a few times you will begin to relax……. Remember though if you’re psychologist doesn’t feel like the right one for you, you can see another one……. The most important thing is that you are receiving help…..

psychologists can give us a lot of strategies to help us to manage our anxiety, they are there to help us…

all the best 😊

Hey guys so it Went really well just unloaded as soon as I sat down haha so much that I didn't know I was even thinking about my therapist thinks I've been depressed for a while from some underlying issues which I think I managed to share some that I never thought were a issue so when I had the first panic attack it triggered it all over all was good experience felt comfortable to share and just say what I needed and she offered me advice I feel exhausted after but know I've made the first forward step makes me feel positive if anyone reading this hesitated to make that first step to talk it feels like such a weight so please make that jump you won't regret it

Hi Markymark,

Thanks so much for telling us how it went. It’s encouraging to hear.

I can relate to what you’ve said about feeling like a weight is lifted when you’re able to talk about what’s going on.

Wishing you well,

Lillylane

Thanks for all the support guys things have definitely been on the upwards have been a couple of bad days in the mix but I've started exercising and pushing myself into social situations but the biggest thing kicking me in the butt is the derealisation and depersonalisation which in some situations seems to elevate and begin me panicking anyone have much do to with these symptoms and any ideas to help

Hi Markymark313,

Thats ok happy to support you 😊

Wonderful to hear things have been on the upwards…that’s great you are exercising and pushing yourself into social situations… well done

When you are feeling like you are in depersonalisation…… once you are aware this is happening you could gently redirect your attention to the present moment…… like focus on what the person is saying, feel your feet in your shoes, how does something feel?

Do you think this could help?

here to chat to you

Thanks petal so far so good I think the biggest one is the derealisation which feels like it has been constant for last few weeks now being I that out of it dream like state I know it's just a symptom but it's prob what is wearing me out the most but I have noticed sometimes when I'm focused on something I feel myself relax and the derealisation fades but then I become aware that it has faded and I come back into it
