Physical anxiety symptoms - muscle twitches, cramps, weakness

The past week or two I’ve been totally ruled by my health anxiety. I started having a weak feeling in my left hand and arm and something about MND came on TV and now of course I have MND. I’ve been experiencing muscle twitches and cramps/sore muscles, mainly in my calves and forearms. I saw my Dr in relation to this and he tested my reflexes, strength and pulses and all was fine. I keep trying to reason with myself but I just can’t shake this MND idea. It’s ridiculous. My Dr only prescribed medication to take when I’m having a really bad moment but the problem is I’m having these every day for most of the day.

Is anyone else experiencing this type of physical anxiety symptoms? This is all new to me as I’ve never experienced this type of anxiety before.

Hi I’ve posted Cuthburt diwn the thread, I’m replying to your post as I’ve had the same symptoms but improving finally after 6 weeks. Definitely anxiety. If you can’t find my thread , I was told it’s the somatic nervous system. If you have unresolved emotion it builds up in the physical body and can cause all the symptoms we’ve experienced.

Hi I’ve replied down the thread, yes anxiety symptoms I’ve had the same symptoms. Anxiety makes it worse. I was informed by GP and psychologist it’s the somatic nervous system from emotion and stress built up in the body.

look into somatic nervous system. I wasn’t anxious when I started having body symptoms, that came first. The somatic nervous system I’ve been told by GP and psychologist is unresolved emotion in the body. I hope that helps.

Hi amands

After reading what you say I feel that your feelings are playing on your mind and causing you to be anxious. What you need is some quiet time for yourself to relax involve yourself in some activities that you like so it keeps you occupied and you have less time to think or be anxious.

Everyone feels anxious about something or the other so it is normal to be anxious but don’t make yourself feel you have an anxiety disorder. It’s perfectly normal to be anxious about things but thinking a about it constantly will only aggravate the situation.

stay calm no matter what the situation. When you feel anxious divert your thinking about something good that is happening or listen to quiet music. Go for a walk look at nature, admire the things you see around you.

Dont give yourself time to think about anxiety. Think positive, make new friends, enjoy the good things you have and look at the brighter side of life.

You can and will overcome this.

Hello amiee I had the exact same symptoms I had extreme muscle twitching everywhere in my body even my throat and tongue. My hands were so weak I couldn’t even use them properly. I also convinced myself I had mnd 😕 I also had extreme blurred vision and dizziness it was ruining me i never experienced so much fear I had every test known to man done to me and ruled out mnd and the truth is anxiety does cause all those symptoms I have been battling anxiety all my life and when my marriage broke down that’s when my symptoms started the way to stop it is to control the fear and slowly slowly it will all disappear I am also a 26 strong build male and this made me feel extremely weak

Hi Robbie,
I started off having spells of lightheadness 2 months ago, had blood tests, Coronary Angiograms etc, and it has caused massive amount of Anxiety thinking I had a brain tumor even. I had an MRI of my brain which came back clear. Whilst this has been going on I developed twitches mostly in my legs. I am more mindful of them as my Dad has MND so really stressing and have lost a lot of sleep. My question to you is how long did your twitches take to go away once i start getting the anxiety under control? Thanks in advance.

I also (still to this day) get very anxious or overthink when I get physical symptoms from anxiety. When I would get abdominal pains I used to think that maybe my appendix bursted and was going to die. I would always search up on google about my symptoms which obviously ake the situation worse. I would also get joints pains, tension headaches, temples would hurt, breathing would increase, I would sweat profusely. Some of these would keep up at night, thinking about how this was going to lead me to my death.

I would also feel restless at school, I felt the urge to move my legs or do something because I just couldn't sit still.

I am so sorry about your dad, that is terrible I started getting my twitches around may this year and it was so consistent every second 24/7 after I got the emg to rule out mnd and all tests known to man and now I’m medicated it took about a good 5/6 months to almost completely subside I still get little ones here and there but it’s like once or twice a day I really hope you land on your feet and I hope all the best for you No one should ever go through what your going through

I wish I could say it took a couple of days but it is so important to completely get your fears under control it is a lengthy process for it to stop also magnesium tablets helped a lot

Thanks for the info. I too had an EMG last Saturday which came back clear. I am also doing a follow up consult with the Neurologost on Tuesday next week. Dizziness still going on, GP says the trigger was lack of sleep and underlying constant stress. Not sure what to believe.
First day back at the gym today and I still feel strong enough to do all the exercises which made me feel good. Feels like it's going to take time to get over this.
