Hey guys I've had a fear of death since I was about 7 I would get panic attacks once every few years about what it I died the past 3 months have been a night mare for me I keep thinking what if I die, then we have our sub category's like what if I die young, what if I die before I achieve my goals, what if I die before I have children, what if I die before my children grow up, what if I never see my grandchildren. The list goes on and on I currently have an amazing girlfriend that's helped me threw my anxiety and always been there for me and I want to get engaged to her soon and my thoughts keep say what if you die before you can get married to her. I wake up with anxiety and panic attacks it does come and go but 70% of the time I have anxiety during the day I am a religious Christian and I tell myself god has a plan for me and i truly believe that but my animistic will fade for a day or two then come back does anyone else experience anxiety like this? And if so how do you control it because my thoughts don't stop just recently I thought of quoting my job because I said to myself what if I die soon I don't want to work for no reason I'll rather relax help would be much appreciated thanks guys

Hi Assaad,

It's actually quite reassuring to know that there are people out there that do have similar thoughts as myself. My biggest fear in life is also death and i sometimes wake up during the night with anxiety about what death will be like. For me it is the fear that i can not run away from it or for any matter control that this will one day happen. I am only 23 years of age and i understand that i still have my whole life to live but it is definitely something that causes anxiety when it comes into mind. When does it usually happen for you? For me it is usually at night time or if i wake up and i am alone. I have fears of major health issues as well.

My mother is currently going through a hard time with her own depression and anxiety and the situation that i am currently going through has made me somewhat stronger to try and beat the anxiety and tackle it head on rather then letting it knock me down.

Hey Assaad

Thankyou for posting a good thread topic as many people have the same thoughts as you do.

Intrusive thoughts whether about dying early or any other matter can be a real pain. I have had chronic anxiety for many years and used to think similar thoughts as well.

You are fortunate to have an amazing girlfriend that has been there for you. Most of the time the intrusive thoughts are a result of anxiety. When the anxiety is treated by a good GP or a counselor you should find the intrusive thoughts will dissipate.

Unless there are no underlying medical issues try to make a double appointment with your GP and they will be able to assist you more than you know. They have more comprehensive training where anxiety is concerned now compared to the 1980's when my anxiety gave me intrusive thoughts.

Anxiety disorder is like a tree with many leaves on it. Intrusive thoughts are one of these leaves on the anxiety tree that can effect our lives.

I have also been brought up in the Christian faith too Assaad. The intrusive thoughts (anxiety) are no different to a physical problem except we cant 'see' the condition we have.

Anxiety can also be 'free floating' in nature due to lifestyle issues as well as chemical based too. There can be no apparent cause when they happen which makes the anxiety compound itself.

I really hope you can book that double appointment. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose by doing so:-)

To have the huge inner strength to post I see a survivor not a person that is going to pass away

There are many gentle people on the forums that can be here for you Assaad.

You are more than welcome to post back when convenient. I really hope you do!

my kind thoughts

Paul
