Can anyone Relate

Hi all,

I finally have my first pysch appointment today and I really anxious. My mum and I put to get her a mental health history for the Dr so that I wouldn't need to rehash everything and we've also requested that my mum come into the session with me as I am so distressed. I know this is not the best way to receive help but right now it's what I can manage.
I'm so worried that I won't click with this Dr and then need to find a new one and I'm worried about how much toll that will take on me.

I was wondering if anyone else had heard of a website called mindspot?

I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Hi,

The post had a delayed upload . As an update, I had the appointment and almost bolted the minute I got in there. Thankfully mum was there and able to calm me and then the appointment proceded quite successfully. But the minute I left I got a tight stomach and a head ache. Looking forward to the next appointment but still worried I may not click with her. Or that she won't be able to help me

Hello YellowPoppy,

It’s totally understandable that you were feeling so anxious before your appointment. It’s a big deal to be opening up to someone that you don’t know for the first time, and being unsure what to expect. I’m really glad that you didn’t run away and that your Mum was with you for support. It can be hard at first to get used to talking to psychologists/psychiatrists, but is so worth it if you can find someone you click with.

I know you’re worried that maybe you won’t click. All you can do is take it as it comes at the moment. It sounds like you didn’t have a negative first appointment, so it’s probably worth giving it a few more sessions before you decide if she’s someone you can work with. Hopefully it works out, but if not, you will find someone. Sometimes it can take a few goes, I know it did with me. But that’s ok, it was worth the effort to find someone I really trusted and felt like I could be myself with.

I hope your next appointment goes well. Take care.

Hi Poppy,

as far as I see it you’ve already done the hard yards, you have acknowledged things as they are and sought help, congratulations..

the sessions are the “easier” part..

if I could use an analogy, it’s like climbing up that steep mountain, which you’ve done.. now it’s about what the view looks like from the top!

I wish you all the best

Hi,

Thank you both! I have the next 3 appointments booked. And I am positive about them. I did have a good first appointment but the anxieties keep nagging away.

I think you're right about getting over the first hump.

Take care
