Scared to sleep. Recurring dreams

hann1805

So lately I've been having two recurring dreams. The first where I can't see a thing but feel like the walls are closing in on me, I can barely breathe and wake up gasping for air . The second is me walking alone through a dark deserted hallway that never seems to end, before realizing that my teeth have fallen out and I can clearly feel where they used to be so I suddenly wake up and make sure they're still there.

These are starting to really scare me and I delay sleep as much as possible just to avoid these dreams but I can't seem to escape them.

Can anyone tell me what they would mean??

Hello dear Hann,

I don't really know what your dreams mean, but I am thinking you are struggling anxiety and depression and you're feeling hard to deal with them - that's what my opinion about your dreams is. You should talk more to someone on personal problems that you're dealing with in your daily life, don't you think?

I can perfectly understand your struggle, I have been dealing with nightmares for a long, but I really think dreaming is good, no matter what. You are releasing some energy. Please try to talk to someone and think about what could those be related to in your daily life. Maybe a recurring dream is a real strong problem you deal with every day and it manifests in other situations too. In fact, I'm sure it happens like that.

Keep us posted and please, try to go to sleep no matter what. And talk to someone. Are you seeing a specialist?

Hi Hann,

My name is Ky and i have been suffereing from reuccuring nightmares for quite a few years. I suffer from anxiety, depression and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). My dreams usually involve me running, but i never find out what from. I am always tired because i try to hardly sleep out of fear of these dreams. They say the dreams are a result of PTSD due to my childchood and no matter what they do it never helps me.

Hi gmc

Yeah it is really hard to deal with some days. A couple of days later and I'm still getting them. I'm losing heaps of sleep and its hard to get through a day of work with only 3 hours sleep.

With my busy schedule I'm trying to find time to setup an appointment with a specialist. But I am working it out because my partner is adamant on me going to see one.

Dear Hann,

It's great that you have your partner's support, mostly in this case, when not sleeping enough affects your daily life. His support in seeing a specialist is good for you, I think. You'll see, once you talk to someone there's hope that appears and then you'll start working on your well-being. I hope you'll be optimistic about it.

You know, trying to distract yourself can do good. Making a sort of schedule of nice stuff to do before sleeping may do good. I does for me, I'm telling from my own experience. I don't suffer from PTSD, although I've been through hard stuff I got over after a while. How long does this happen, since when did it start?

You know, I'd suggest you start reading about the dreams from psychology books, this rational approach may do good too, I think. You may know yourself a little more.

Good luck,

gmc
