Next year I will start year 11 and honestly I am very scared. I dropped out of high school 4 years ago so I’m a bit rusty. My anxiety is also off the roof. I am terrified and scared. Any tips to survive year 11? thanks

Hi Justin,

Congrats on starting year 11 again! That is so brave of you.

Year 11 may look like such a difficult year but trust me it isn't. I only graduated 2 years ago from high school and it isn't scary as it seems. However, it is normal to feel anxious and scared. I am sure everyone is in the same boat.

My tips for surviving year 11 is:

- Stay organised and on top of your work.

- Summarise what you learn every week in 300 words per subject

- Make some free time to socialise with your loved ones

- mediation and mindfulness to help you cope with the anxiety and stress of exams/assignments

- Ask your teachers after class/by email if you are stuck with anything

- Get a tutor if your teachers aren't good

Good luck and i know you'll get through it!

Hi there,

I'm sure that your teachers will be more than understanding that it's been a while since you've been in school, and they'll help you through things if you have any problems. Good on you for deciding to do year 11.

What are some of the things making you feel scared or anxious about starting?

I’m anxious about the amount of workload to be done. I’m just not used to it.

Congratulations on deciding to start year 11! Your going to do amazing. If there's any advice I can give its to:

- Stay on top of homework and use the syllabus dot points to guide study (prepares study for year 12)

- Stay out of any irrelevant drama/fights, it could drag you into a place you don't belong. Always stay kind to all types of kids, never know what they're going through & new friendships you can find.

- Your teachers are there to help you, so don't shy away from asking questions and getting the most academic advice out of them, thats their job.

- Find friends with the same values as you inside (not always popularity, looks etc.)

- If you find your burning out from over-studying, always take a break and put your mental wellbeing first

Dont stress too much if at first it seems overwhelming, it might take time to integrate but it will be such an exciting process.

Enjoy it and enjoy making beautiful memories!

Hi Justin95,

Welcome to the forums and congratulations for going back to school. You should be proud of yourself. It's normal to be anxious, however, remember you are not the same person you were 4 years ago. When studying try to always be on top of your study and be able to catch up. A big tip would be to use a planner/diary to write down all the deadlines for the assignments, but also to write each day what tasks you need to finish. This will help keep you on track. It is also a great idea to reach out to your teachers about this and they can provide you with extra help if you do need it. If you are still finding it hard to study then I would recommend tutoring, there are many online and in person options. Take it one step at a time and you will eventually get the hang of it. Good luck and all the best.
