I'm so scared and anxious about deciding to move school, and I'm stuck.

I started year 7 at a private, catholic girls school. And it was okay. The facilities were amazing, the use of technology was astounding and the environment was great. The community feeling was helpful too. But I took all of that for granted, and moved to a public school where most of my friends from primary school had gone to. This public school excelled in their music and arts, which is what I loved about it, and had a musical stage program thing (which I did this year.) But since I moved, I became depressed. I have to take meds. I see a doctor. My anxiety sky-rocketed. Everyone is so fake at the public school and I only have two friends to talk to. I miss my old school. I miss my friends from there. I took it all for granted. But I'm so scared of going back. My anxiety kills. And I'm worried I'll regret the move once I'm there, and I'm worried my friends won't like me anymore and I'm worried they've changed. Its been two years since I was at that school. A lot can change in two years. I miss them. I miss the support. I can't stand this public school anymore. I know moving back sounds like the right thing to do, but I'm so terribly anxious that I'll regret it or something. I'm scared and I'm stuck and I know this probably isn't what this forum is for but I need help on deciding.
I'm 15 and in year 9.

Hey littlehammond, welcome to the forums and thank you for reaching out to us.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a tough time at school. I think what you firstly need to do is work out your priorities and what you want to get out of your education. For me, going through high school was much more about making and sustaining solid friendships; I didn't really care about my grades too much, and I wasn't planning on going to university or anything. However if you're wanting to do really well in your subjects and feel that you perform better at this school, despite the lack of friends, then that is something you have to take into consideration. In saying that, there is no reason you can't keep the friendships with the people from your old school. I finished school this time last year, and even though all my friends have been off travelling or going to uni or working, I've still be able to maintain my friendships with them and catch up whenever we can.

Perhaps write a list of pros and cons for each school, and figure out what is most important to you now, as well as in a couple of years time. I'd bring it up with your doctor too, as a professional opinion is always worth listening to.

Hi littlehammond,

Firstly I'd like to say well done on opening up and seeking advice. Im currently studying psychology and have recently learnt that these actions, recognising you can't fix everything alone, is actually something people who cope well with stress and problems etc do, I don't, I know it and own it, I will only accept help when im about to fall in a hole and only ask for it once I have lol. And let me tell you its not nice...

Next I want you to think about something, it seems obvious but dwell on it for a moment... How many of your friends do you think you will be working with in a few years to come? Waking up 5 times a week to go spend even longer than school runs without any of these people by your side... You may see them after work and on the weekends but I tell ya what chances are you wont work with any of them...

So tell me this.. Say you've got a nice paying, secure full time job... Two of your friends work down the road at Hungry Jacks, casual low pay... Their working together havin fun and laughing... Spitting in customers drinks... Your strapped to a desk, bored all day, want to leave... Hungry Jacks starts hiring... Do you leave your job to go work with them?

Now... Which school would you rather go to???

Just sayin 😛
