Hello, I'm new here. I'm not really sure if I'm doing the right thing so if I'm not, I apologise. I just wanted to talk about my anxiety and all that. Anxiety has always been with me since I entered adolescence. But this past year I've improved so much better. That was until I had to do a presentation for my History class and I found myself stuttering and mispronouncing words. My teacher kept correcting me and saying that she didn't understand me. After I finished, she asked me "What grade do you think you'll get?" and I responded with a C. She then replied with "Hm. Maybe not even that."
This was a fortnight ago and ever since then when I've been told to read stuff out in class and such, I found it really hard. I feel that although her words weren't that harsh, it still affected me. When she criticises, she does it in such a monotone voice. I think that is what made it worse. How long do you think it'll take me to return back to having only minor anxiety? Or do you think I'm taking it all to heart?
Thank you.

Hey Chen
I'm also new around here, I just wanted to say welcome and to let you know that even though I don't have an answer I can tell you that the more you do something that makes you anxious the easier it gets, but I also understand how hard it is to do.
I think I know what you're going through and I know just how hard it can be. This site has helped me, there are some many nice people here with great advice so hang in there 🙂
James.

Hi Chen,
James is right there. also, teachers arent perfect. It seems from your account that she hasnt taken you aside to calmly let you know how to correct your errors and tell you exactly what she expects from you and how to get there.
So I'd approach her privately. Ask her how you can overcome this hurdle.
Dont expect too much of yourself in that if at the end of the day you cant meet the requirements ....the sun will still rise in the morning.

Hi James,
Thank you for your input. I know that I sort of give up easily once I start getting too nervous. I know that I can do it, I'm just scared, that's all.
Chen. 🙂

Hello WK,
I think she's just a straightforward teacher and doesn't hold back from letting us know what we've done wrong. In a way, I think it'll may be stronger. I found out that I didn't get a bad grade for it so I guess my content saved me from my communication side of the presentation.
Thank you!
Chen.
