Hi Bodey,

Welcome to the forum!

If you don't mind me asking, have you been diagnosed with depression and anxiety by your doctor? It would be a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor regardless, to discuss the issues you're facing. Your doctor may be able to give you tips and strategies to work through the anxiety, and to deal with the depression.

I also used to be very shy, with people who weren't family or good friends. I was like this until my late teens. Shyness can and often does improve with time and exposure to new social situations. It's important to remember that many people have underlying insecurities and fears which they may hide, or that won't be apparent to others. For example, at university I have discovered that many more people than I realised fear or get anxious about public speaking.

If you have a few close or old friends, try to keep in contact with them. Friendships are really important, and can help people with conditions such as anxiety and depression, as they serve as emotional support. Also, talking to friends can help take your mind off your own worries and insecurities for a little while.

Good luck with working through the depression and anxiety. If you need information about these two mental health conditions, Beyond blue has info under Resources in the blue menu.

Best wishes,

SM
