Don't see a future for myself anymore

Val_da_man

So, I'm gonna be an adult soon. Haven't posted in ages, but what else can you expect of someone who barely remembers what day it is?

I'm really struggling to see a future for myself. I constantly tried to tell myself that I know what I want and forced myself into that by choosing subjects like chemistry, but the recent exams made me realise how abhorrently stupid I am. I've never felt so disgusted with myself, I seriously don't think I can finish year 12.

I was looking at Uni courses since I promised to go to my family, but nothing grips me. I don't want to work, study, or do anything. I can't see myself as anything more than a pathetic dropout who won't ever learn any skills and just starve because I won't be able to sustain myself, and I am sure as hell am not staying in this household for any longer than I must.

It's a rant and a half, but I just have no idea if this is depression, something else or really just my brain being useless. if you can offer advice beyond "go to this website" I'd appreciate it.

tl;dr : I'm realising that I am too dumb to go to Uni and don't have a future, send help.

Hi Val_da_man,

There's actually this really great website that I think will be handy I'll link to it below -

Sorry, couldn't resist 🙂 Actually, my advice to you is to cut yourself some serious slack. COVID-19 has kinda put us all into survival mode- we have people here who are struggling with their finances, relationships, all sorts of bits and pieces- it is honestly shattering all of us. It's become so hard to think about the future when we don't know what that looks like and we are often all just going through it day by day.

Take that, and add it to year 12- where everyone is supposedly figuring out what they want to do with their lives and their futures, and it's no wonder that you're feeling this way. I'm old now (well, 20's), but I know from year 12 it was all this pressure to make life decisions, as if we just had to commit to one thing and that would be our life path. Do you have that too?

I don't see you as/becoming a pathetic dropout. I see you as a totally normal person trying their very best to cope with a really sh*t situation.

I hope that this helps a little

Hello Val_da_man,..

Im sorry your struggling so hard with your mental health...

We are not Drs here and can’t diagnose you, but your symptoms do sound like some depression has found you...

Im wondering if you could talk to your Dr about your thoughts and how your feeling..They can help you with a diagnosis and professional treatment if required...It’s to hard to manage depression on our own...

No one, in my opinion is to dumb for university..because it’s there that we learn what we’re interested in...A lot of people know zero about things until they are taught about it..so Please Val...do not be so hard on yourself...

The first step is getting a diagnosis and moving forward from there....Have faith and believe in yourself is very important and with it we can move forward..

The depression in our brain tells us how useless we are..but depression lies constantly and they are only thoughts dear Val...nothing else and we don’t need to listen to them....Getting the right Coping tools from professionals can help us to start healing..

Talk here anytime you feel up to it..wecare here for you and will try our best to talk you you through these hard times your facing...You’re not alone dear Val...we are here will our care and support for you..

Sending you my kindest wishes and caring thoughts..

Grandy..

This is probably a useless post, I’m still a young teenager with no experience in what you are going through. But what I do know is that life is hard. Like really hard. And for me personally I can feel in such a sh*t mood that I can’t even be bothered to send another post on these forums and I can check back heaps hoping someone else has responded to me. So I feel cared about. Even if there was nothing for them to respond to. Anyways if you are one of those people like me, that just wants to know that there is always a stranger that they can count on, I’m here. It sounds weird I know.. a 14 year old trying to help an 17/18 year old. But what I guess I want you so know is I am here for you, I care and I know you will get through every challenge that is thrown at you. And congrats! You have finished year 12 now I’m assuming, which is great news. I’m really proud of you, so wherever you choose to go from here I support you.
