How to I learn to love my body? I have been aiming to workout regularly and I have found this hard due to homework and my job. I still look the same as I did a year ago with no changes. I see my friend say healthy for a week and they loose weight, i could eat healthy and workout and see no difference. Could someone tell me why?

liv

welcome you the forum.

It cannseem unfair that some people eat healthy and workout and they lose weight but others eat the same food and work out but don’t.

I f you feel ok about your body your healthy eating, and workouts maybe you will benefit by having more energy. You can eat healthy but not lose weight .

Do you want to loose weight or be healthy or both.? Do you feel that you have more energy and can concentrate more. .?
Just a few thoughts.

Hi liv_..

Thank you for your post.

If you have been trying to loose weight for a year, genuinely stuck to a healthy eating habits and exercised regularly but you haven’t noticed any difference there might be some underlying problems that you might not be aware of. Your genetic profile, hormonal changes, history of certain illnesses in your family etc. Have you had a chance to talk to your GP yet?

Hi liv,

How to learn to love your body?
Our bodies are amazing they do amazing things for us including to allow us to live in things beautiful world. The female body can grow a baby and give birth and we don’t even know how our bodies are doing this for us… just amazing

Tell yourself great things about yourself and your body …….. I sometimes have negative thoughts put up about my body but I’m quick to tell myself good positive things about my body and that I love myself.

Practice positive self talk… try not to compare yourself to others you are you and your just beautiful and amazing just the way you are 😊❤️

Hi there liv,

Unfortunately we live in a world obsessed with diets and weight loss and thinness above all else, when what we should be appreciating, like Petal 22 was saying, is what our amazing bodies can do for us at all sizes - they let us walk in nature, swim in the ocean etc.

Hey Liv,

Thanks for sharing. Learning to love yourself is a process that takes time and I'm so proud of you for reaching out.

I understand what you are going through, and I am so sorry that you have to go through it.

Just remember that your worth does not lie in your body or appearance. It's who you are that matters. Practice noticing the aspects of yourself that you do like, they don't have to be physical at all.

Our society often preaches such a toxic message, remember that anyone worth your time of day looks at your soul and not your body.

Always here to talk

Hey liv, I really believe learning to love your body is a process and for me its taken me many many years to truly say that I do now. I used to restrict my food intake and work out excessively to maintain a very thin and toned physique as I believed I wasn't good enough if I gained any unnecessary weight. Believe me, even when you are at a 'desirable' weight the thoughts of not being good enough won't always stop. I used to attend counselling for body image which really assisted getting in control of any destructive, comparative or ruminative thoughts that would then impact my self-esteem, confidence and general outlook on life and myself. I can say from this, sometimes learning to love your body is really silencing many of the damaging thoughts you do get about your body. No matter what size you are or features you have, you really are beautiful because the real you is who you are inside and that has allowed me to stop putting so much importance on my body, thus naturally start accepting it more. Tips I found helpful for me, was to find 'influencers' or other individuals that share the same features/body size as you, and let their confidence/acceptance of themselves inspire you to feel that for yourself. You really can see their inner beauty radiating outwards because a lot of this stems from a sense of self-acceptance no matter what your body looks like. I believe another useful tip is to remove all influencers or limit exposure you see of models that could potentially trigger comparative thoughts. when you are learning to love your body, it is important to be kind and gentle to your mind. Another, is appreciating your bodily strenghs- traits you have others wish they did even if you don't agree.

At the end of the day, knowing my body is a vessel for my life and it is working tirelessly to ensure I am alive and well, allows me to connect to a more profound essence of love I have for my body. It is constantly fighting off harmful micro-organisms/toxins, pumping and purifying blood day in day out no matter how badly I eat/drink or lack of exercise and care I show it- my body is still fighting for me. Coming back to this simple and beautiful fact, I can't help but inherently love my body for how it loves me enough to keep me alive at all costs.

Bodily self-love is important, but remember you are so much more than your body- don't let it consume you. You are strong and beautiful.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the late reply.

I belive that I eat relatively healthy compared to many of my skinnier friends and yet i am unable to make a change to my body. I do recognize however that this could be due to metabolism and genetics. I actually have starting having a more positive outlook on my body, nothing massive but every little counts haha. Thankyou guys 🙂
