Anyone else have bad tinnitus?

Egbert97

Hi there!

Over the last few days it seems my tinnitus has developed for the worse. I was wondering if there's anyone out there that are dealing with tinnitus themselves? Connecting with others about my issues really help & there doesn't seem to be many support groups out there for this issue, let alone for young people.

Hey and welcome Egbert;

Yep! Been the bane of my life for a while now and at times in the past, so I do understand how frustrated and annoyed you must be feeling.

I realized that when I lost a lot of weight and was a normal size, the tinnitus disappeared. It was so calm and nice to fall asleep or watch tv for instance. Since I've put the weight back on though, it's come back with a vengeance.

This is just me ok. I haven't spoken to others about it so I'm not sure what's what in that regard. This is just my observations.

Hope this helps hun. Please look around the forum for interesting threads to join in or read. This is a safe space to be and has some wonderful members to lean on or, to help out if you're inclined to do so.

Again, welcome!

Kind thoughts;

Thanks Sez! I've actually lost 15kg recently and the tinnitus spike occurred 3 days ago. Care to share any coping strategies you have?

Dear Egbert97~

Tinnitus, particularly when you first get it seem to take over your life, the constant noise combined with a loss of hearing makes live very difficult and frustrating.

I am lucky I guess in I know what caused mine, an incident at my employment, and thus there was not much time taken up establishing the cause. I have no idea of your circumstances and also no idea if your recent change in weight has played a part.

Unless you have already done so may I suggest you go though appropriate medical investigation to see if there is a cause that can account for it, and if as a result it may be minimized.

I never found anything that helped except myself. Modern hearing aides do seem to have an anti-tinnitus setting, I never found they helped.

Concentrating on somethng you are interested in from a book to rideing can allow you to almost forget it for a while.

Now many years later I only seem to get the full effect if I concentrate on it, otherwise my mind has tended to block it out of my consciousness, still there but ignored. The only remaining problem is the accompanying hearing loss, and for that aids are improving. If I get a phone cal it goes straight to my aids in my ears and makes huge difference.

I hope it settles down for you

Hey again Egbert;

Like Croix I mostly try to ignore it as I'm now aware it's weight related. Sometimes if it annoys me I give myself vigorous (dry) wet-willies. Ha-ha! It actually helps a little bit believe it or not.

It's interesting how yours has spiked after weight loss. It sort of makes sense to me that weight may have some baring on our situations as fat can infiltrate many parts of the body we don't realise, putting undue pressure on those areas.

By the way, congrats on the weight loss too! Mighty, mighty...

Lovely meeting you ✌

Hi, yeh I suffer quite badly from it also and it's bad tonight but I seem to be able to not think of it most of the time. It also helps if you have some sleep aids if it's keeping you up. I read a few things about it time to time but your right there doesn't seem to be any good info out there on it.

Hi Egbert97, one problem we could surely do without, however, have you put some baby or olive oil drops in your ear, this will loosen any ear wax and before you have your ears washed out, you'd be asked if you have been doing this a few days before as they suggest you do.

Good luck.

Hi Geoff,

yes I have been using Waxsol for the last few nights. My left ear feels clearer and maybe the tinnitus has gone down, but my right ear feels super clogged and the tinnitus actually feels worse + hearing is a bit muffled. I’m really hoping it’s just wax being stuck there - I have horrible health anxiety.

Hi Egbert97, that's good to know so can you use it for your right ear and ask your pharmacist how often you should use it.

Best wishes.

Geoff.
