Managing my illness for over 15 years but struggling this year

Hi, I'm new to this site. I saw my gp on Friday who is recommending I see someone as I haven't been feeling that great lately but still managing to get up in the morning and getting on with what the day brings. I don't really want to see anyone right now as I'm worried that if I open this pandora box right now it will bring me back to square one. So I thought maybe I'll join and see if hearing other people's experiences will help me refocus and get back on track. Anyways just saying hi and go from there.

Hi SimplyMe#37,

Welcome to this forum! I'm sorry to hear that you have been struggling with your illness this year, but I am very happy to hear that you have chosen to seek assistance from your GP. You will find that there are many people on this forum who have experienced similar issues that you yourself face.

I commend you for joining this community and I believe that you will find members of this forum to be informative and empathetic to your situation. As for your concern about seeing a Psychologist (I'm presuming that your GP has referred you to a Psychologist), I can certainly empathise with the concerns that you may have.

Personally, I feel that it may be worth while seeing someone and talking about the management of your illness. You could voice your concerns with the clinician during the initial session and inform them of what makes you comfortable or uncomfortable. Regardless, I feel that you have taken a positive step by joining this community.

I wish you all the best,
Ken.

Hi SimplyMe, welcome to the forum. It sounds like you're no stranger to the black dog - you've kept him on a leash for long time. Have you any thoughts about why he's been causing you problems again?

I know from another thread that you have young children. I remember how exhausting that can be in itself, and doubly hard with when you're depressed. Little people don't understand about time out do they. Has that become a problem for you?

I hope you'll come back and talk a bit more hun.

Hello. I am new to the forum myself. I have been struggling with my chronic depression for 25 years. For the last 9 years I have known what I have. I have a GP, Psychologist and hopefully a new psychiatrist. Currently I do not work and may have to accept that in terms of how I deal with stress. I find this forum a great support and I think it is great that you are seeking help. Regards Self Truth
