Hey,
Scenario: I man watching a movie in the lounge room and someone is playing sound out loud on their phone.
I can be physically watching the movie but I’m not mentally watching it or taking in anything that’s happening cause my mind is so focused on that sound and I can’t properly watch the movie until that sound is gone.
This is normal?
Thanks,
Holly 🙂

Hey,
I can relate to this. And for me it is getting worse as I get older. I have actually asked for a referral to see a psychiatrist as this is just one of the things driving me crazy at the moment. I don't know if this is normal though, but it can't be healthy if it is annoying us that much.

Thank you,
I might talk to my Headspace person about this.

Hi Holly,
This happens to me sometimes as well. If I'm trying to read and I can hear talking, there is no way I can focus on my reading. It is so frustrating. I think it has something to do with the way sounds are processed in my brain.
If it's quite upsetting or distracting I either try to eliminate the sound (e.g. close a door) or put my noise cancelling headphones on. These have given me so much relief, seriously best thing I have ever bought.
Best of luck.

Hey Holly,
I sometimes find it hard to concentrate on watching and reading things if someone else is making noise in the room as well. Putting in the effort to try and concentrate only to lose focus can be really tiring as well.
If it's at home I can generally tell whoever is making the noise to go to another room or just move myself. But it can be difficult elsewhere.
I think it's good idea to talk to your headspace person about it because it sounds like it is quite troublesome for you.
I hope you're able to find a solution that works for you 🙂
