Hi to everyone, I have just joined the forum, this is the first forum I have ever been part of so not quite sure how it works. I live in a remote area of Australia and the people here have one mental health professional they can see. I was on a plan and had several visits with this person but found it wasn't helping me at all and it was very expensive ,more than we could afford.
I have been struggling with severe depression for about 14yrs now, the crucial point that sent me spirally downwards was the death of my son in 2004 but I had the depression before this but not so bad. I have just come to the end of the road, I feel I have tried every option you could possibly think of, Medication, CBT, TLC, with books and online courses ect ect, and nothing has worked, everytime I try something new I seem to get some hope, but then when it doesnt work I go even further back. I know that everyone say to talk to someone but what do you do when you have done all this again and again and nothing has worked. I wonder if anyone else has come to the end of the road with what to try next?

Hi Geordie, welcome

Im nnot sure about the fiancual side whether you would qualify for a mental health plan with 10 free visits to a psych. Ring centrelink.

Birds of a feather? We are here on this forum because we share mental illness. Those family and friends without one really wont relate. So you have an option to give this site a go.

There is a circle of friends thread by "stressless" that might interest you. Just go up the top and click on "all posts" and browse.

Here are a few examples of threads you can read. There are thousands.

hello Geordie Girl, welcome to the forum and thanks for posting your comment.
Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your son, this must be so heartbreaking in every possible way, I'm really sorry.
It must be difficult living somewhere in a town that only has one mental health professional, because there maybe times when you say something to them and then what someone else may also tell them, so it can become very difficult.
The trouble is that you can talk to somebody but the result depends on whether or not they actually know what to say, rather than, 'it will be OK', this means nothing, you need to have this person there for you when ever you want them, and those who don't want to talk to you anymore, then forget them, they're not going to be helpful at all.
How far away are you from the next town/city, I'd really like to know.
There are people at Reachout/Headspace plus the BB phone number to ring, and please let me know whether the first two of these are available. Geoff.
