Hello Asatru
I cannot give you any advice on how to officially get diagnosed. So I hope it is OK with you if I reply anyway. Basically I wanted to say hello back to you and give you a welcome hug. And I am sorry you have had bad experiences with GPs in the past. Maybe someone else here can advise you more. OK
With love
Shelley xx

Hi Asatru
I'm no specialist, but my family fostered kids with un-diagnosed and diagnosed ADHD as well as other disabilities and disorders. And I remember my parents enlisted the help of our local Community Health Centers, they are mostly free to the public and usually take cases without referrals.
Not sure about medications and what not, but they have health nurses there (No GP's) that can help. I'm a new mum and they have helped me a lot. They see me and my bub. So that might be an option for you to look into. Good luck, my thoughts are with you. 🙂

Hello Asatru : )
I would suggest a referral to a psychologist. My son (10) has O.D.D but the majority of his behavioural issues point to ADHD which his psychologist suspects is the bigger underlying issue. We have been waiting for a proper diagnosis for years because initially people have just written him off as an unco-operative class clown or put simply : a brat. Been told "oh, he's just a boy. Sign him up for footy!!!". But academically he is well below the average and struggling.
People get frustrated with him because he can't follow basic instructions unless you repeat it while holding eye contact. He bounces down the street and kicks walls/fences but he's not angry. He's just a spring loaded boy who needs to move whether jumping or just twitching/kicking legs out when seated.
Whatever you do, don't give up. You know in yourself there is something wrong /needs addressing. Gather as much history as you can to show the psychologist.
I have a blue folder with my son's history going all the way back to pre-school when I first noticed his manic movements. School reports/ anything and everything that is supportive in reaching a diagnosis.
