Getting out of bed

I've struggled with depression, sometimes worse than others, for a few years now and I still wonder why, when I know getting out of bed will make me feel a bit better, I still stay in bed refusing to get up. It doesn't make sense but I guess that's what depression does. I've not tried this forum before so maybe talking to people here might help a bit. PamWri

Yes it isnt easy and when taking meds that feeling of wanting to remain in bed is too tempting.
The trouble is that this problem can effect your life, work, relationships etc. It becomes a big issue.
Chat with you GP in the first instance. A sleep study might be ordered or other recommendations. It has to be investigated.
Ive got a ritual. When I have to rise to go to the loo I then jump straight in the shower. By the end of that I'm awake. Another idea is locating an alarm clock away from bed...arms length.

I can relate to the feeling, though when I smoked would get up to have my normal breakfast (coffee plus cig(s).
I've wondered about this reluctance, partly I guess being relaxed, snug and comfortable and not wanting to get cold (particularly the feet). I came to the conclusion it is more than that.
When in bed one is away from the world which can be unpleasant/worrying/frightening to think of at the back of one's mind even if not born out by experience.
Being relaxed feels pleasant and is a rare event during the day, so there is a natural urge to remain that way
In bed stimuli are less. I find the more stimuli the more my feelings go down, I guess I'm easily overwhelmed.
Tony WK has given good suggestions. Although it might feel a trivial thing to talk to your doctor about this, it's not, it's a big part of life, and feelings of failure can emerge if it continues, not a good way to start the day.

I was attracted to the title of your post as I, like others, can definitely empathise with your morning struggle. It must be hard for you...
I obviously can't speak for everyone but at least for me, part of the struggle is not wanting to "face" the day. It's as though when I'm in bed, I am also avoiding the world, the day ahead and my own struggles (to an extent) if that makes sense.
Tony WK left some awesome tips 🙂 I personally find setting multiple alarms on my phone (over 10 alarms in my case) much earlier than necessary helps...sometimes even 3 hours before I need to get up (so I could have, say, alarms that ring at different times over the course of 3 hours). Also, I choose really irritating alarm ring tones...nothing pleasant...I do that in an attempt to motivate me to get out of bed (because the sound is just so grating. Lol).
