G'day
hope everyone is well. This is my first time on a online forum. I'm not sure how this works so I'm flying blind. I've read a few posts and have found them very helpful and nice to hear I'm not alone.
i have anxiety that comes and goes as it pleases. My anxiety isn't focused on a situation or upcoming events it feels like more a physical thing that just rocks up as a ball of adrenaline in my chest then disappears as quick.
Im fine during the day I have anxiety about not being able to sleep that comes along in the evenings after I put my kids to bed. Then I cannot sleep and the cycle continues.
Exersice helps me sleep as my body is tired and eating healthy is also important to me. Your stories have helped me a so much already. Thank you for sharing
cheers

Welcome Ruben when I get an anxiety attack, similar to yourself it's at night with the kids in bed. I find a quite place, turn off the telly if I must find a easy listening long playing track to listen to. Then just sit there and concentrate on my breathing. Just relaxing into the music or in silence. Till I find the anxiety has gone. It works for me, it might not be for you it does take quite a lot of practice. But if you keep doing it it may help.

Hey Rubin83
Thanks for the kind post 🙂 Its wonderful to know that you find the forums a big help to you! Great feedback 🙂
Kanga has posted great advice above with some excellent tips above
I used to have exactly the same as you do...My doctors called it 'Free Floating Anxiety' It does get better over time and especially with your proactive mindset.
Anxiety does seem to effect our sleep and since sleep is one of the best healers of anxiety it can make us more anxious too
I used to have huge problems with sleep too. Can I ask if you have an understanding GP that you can see? They have a good understanding about anxiety nowadays. You have nothing lose and everything to gain by having a visit
Having children you would need all the sleep you can get. Can I ask (if its okay) how much sleep you are getting?
There are many gentle people that can be here for you Rubin...If you have any questions we are here for you
Thankyou again for your kind & inspirational post! I really hope you can stick around the forums.
Great Stuff Rubin

Hi Rubin83,
Firstly, welcome to the forums.
kanga_brumby & Paul (blondguy) have provided some amazing advice above as per usual.
I am also an anxiety sufferer and I tend to wake up more with anxiety than go to sleep with it... my anxiety can tire me out during the day so by the time bed time rolls around I can be out like a light.
As Paul suggested already but have you spoken to a GP or a psychologist before to try and get to the root of your anxiety and help to give you techniques to sleep.
My psychologist once said to me to help me sleep if I can't is to lay down in bed in total darkness and close my eyes and think of my worries and put them on an imaginative book shelf... you are shelfing your worries or thoughts and saying to yourself I do not have to worry about these right now, all I have to do is go to sleep, you imagine yourself putting them on a book shelf... it isn't a quick fix but my psychologist said do this every night before bed, even if you are tired and feel like you can sleep and almost train your mind to let go of the worries and just sleep. Just wanted to share that with you, it may be of no use to you but just a thought.
My best for you,
Jay

Hi Rubin and welcome,
Great suggestions from everyone. Can i add writing down what you are thinking about and how you are feeling when the anxiety strikes? I personally feel that by writing it down it transfers the thoughts from my mind to the paper, therefore clearing the mind. It is similar to Jay's suggestion of putting the thoughts on a shelf, it empties the mind. I have also started fish oil.
It's great that you are exercising and eating well. It is a vicious cycle; anxiety about not being able to sleep, then not sleeping therefore tired so more prone to anxiety. You know you need a good night's sleep to function well the next day so you are anxious about not getting it etc. Bush flower essences are good too. Found in health food stores you spray under the tongue for relaxation. there are different ones for different purposes, you can also get room sprays that you spray around your environment for calm. I also find reading relaxing i like reading positive affirmations and quotes.
Hope you have some luck with these suggestions and find some relief soon.
