First Thread - Feelings of emptiness or darkness

Hello members of Beyond Blue! My name is Chris.

I’ve had quite a bit of experience in dealing with anxiety and depression. Tough times happen for everyone, and you never have to go through that alone. It can feel so dark at times, (I’ve certainly felt it) but by no means are you weak for feeling like that.
It’s important to understand that these feelings are natural, and shouldn’t be taken too seriously. It’s important to be serious about your welfare, but there are tough times to get through, it can be just part of life. But you can certainly reduce your bad feelings dramatically if you’re willing to be open to change. Sometimes it only takes small changes to make all the difference.
I’ve had times where I’ve felt that nothing would help me feel better, but overtime I’ve learnt to monitor and gauge what’s really happening in my brain. I have a much better grasp on my emotions now than I have in the past. Awareness to how the brain works has been very helpful for me.
I have an open outlook on life and am very in touch with my passions.

I understand that every individual’s life experience can differ a great deal and you may feel all alone, but the truth is, you’re not the only one. There are many others out there who feel the same. Even people you’d least suspect.

So feel free to reach out. But remember there’s no pressure to share anything if you don’t want to. If you’ve reached out even at all, that’s a great first step to take. Well done to you if you have reached out recently.

I’ll be here if anyone needs help.

Hi Chris, a great comment and pleased how you have been able to overcome your MI is a fate that will stay with you, so well done, but possible to overcome it in a different way if it resurfaces which we really hope doesn't happen.

It's always inspiring to hear lovely stories like yours and very much appreciated showing the strength we all wish we could obtain which is certainly possible.

Best wishes.

Geoff.

No worries at all. Great to hear that. Thank you for welcoming me. It's really good to know how small things can still change someone's outcome. Forums like this look like a nice discreet way to convey feelings. It's nice.

Hello Grandy. Thanks for the welcoming. Yes. Things are never as bad as they seem;

But having said that, they are ALWAYS as bad as they FEEL. The emotions felt are not fake. But the way I see it, you either fight your feelings or adapt to living with them. It is better to think of it as 'things happening FOR me' not 'things happening TO me'. External things are only partially responsible for your negative emotions. I feel that the hand we are dealt is just the hand we have been given. There is ALWAYS an element of control over your emotions. No one says it is easy, so it shouldn't be treated as 'easy'.

If you start a journey expecting it to run smoothly, you'll be less resilient to it's challenges.

A broad, aware mindset to the challenges you may face along the way is a good tactic to reinforce you to cope with the worst when it does hit you. I give best regards to you too, Grandy.

Cheers Geoff. I love your work. Great to have so much support in the air. 🙂 Life isn't all doom and gloom.

I feel excited to think what my next thread will entitle. Hope your day is going well too, mate.

Is this thread in the right place? Is this just a meet and greet thread? I may have gone a bit off topic.

I'm thinking I'll make a new thread of my own to help others.

Jolly this is your thread and it is in the right place unless you wish to have it in another place .

Sure you can start another thread if you want. You are helping people now by your words. So many more people will read your post than reply. thy will be helped by your honesty/

Yep, thanks. I understand.

Well, keep up the good work Beyond Blue champions!
