Hi all. Obviously, this is my first post here and really, my first post in a public space talking about my mental health problems. I have been dealing with them for some time. Most of the time, I feel I have them under control and deal with life stuff pretty well. Other times, I do not deal with it that well and close up, sit in my room and stick to myself.
I do not drink alcohol and I do not do drugs of any type. I just thought that I should clear that up first. In fact, I am a believer in strength in the mind and take a significant amount of philosophical influence from Buddhism. But hey, I guess sometimes even Buddhism is not enough!
More often than not, I do not even really know what is bothering me. When I feel down, I just feel anxious, confused and unmotivated. My one child and my work is what keeps me going and what I always focus on when I do have bad days. But lately, things have been getting on top of me again and I guess that is why I have turned to the BB forums for help. Actually, not really help. But just to talk perhaps to a few people that experience the same feelings that I do.

Dear 1ofininfluence
Hello and welcome to the forum. This is a great place to talk about the things that bother you, and perhaps pick up tips from others who have also walked this path.
You believe you have your symptoms under control and then find all is not as well as you supposed. Yes, I would say most of us here would have/now have these difficulties. Whether it is a clinical anxiety or depression I don't know but certainly it sounds like the path you are on.
Unfortunately having a strong mind does not often work. I find Christian meditation very helpful and I know there is a similar meditation for Buddhists. It does help to find a space where you can just be. No pressures because you, are for that short time, being within yourself.
Have you heard of neuroplasticity? Look it up as I think with your knowledge of Buddhism you may relate to this. The most well known book on this is The Brain that Changes Itself written by psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. It works on the principle that we create pathways in the brain by frequently repeating actions which with repetition become more easily accessible. These become our default actions even when we do not realise what is happening.
These pathways can be changed by consistently and consciously taking other actions and making them the default path while the original path becomes 'overgrown'. I think this is what happens to some extent in therapy as we learn other other ways to manage and practice them.
Please continue to post here. I expect others will be here to answer you also.

Thanks for your post.
Mary has written a very helpful comment.
I am not sure how old your child is, but when my children were at school, I was working part time and studying, I felt a bit like you for me I felt I was in a rut.
I tried yoga, mindfulness was not around then, meditation etc.
When you feel things are getting on top of you, how does that make you feel physically.?
Do you find it hard to name one thing that you feel is causing you to feel overwhelmed?
Or do you say everything when someone asks how you feel ?
Just asking so I can work out how you are feeling.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thank you both for your replies. It's always nice to know others are reading my thoughts and know how I am feeling.
Mary, I previously meditated and absolutely felt it helped me. About 10-15 mins each night was great. It's really something that I should be putting back into my nightly routine and will seriously consider this. Thanks for the suggestion.

1. I feel lethargic and non-energetic.
2. Yes, I can never narrow it down to one thing. And then I get even more frustrated because of this.
3. When someone asks me how I feel, I tell them "I am fine". That is a lie, yes I know.
