Worse off on meds?

Lostflutterby

So I always thought I was better off on meds, until today. After yet another bad day I've been looking back on the past few years and have realised my mental state has only been worse since I started meds. Prior to that life was a steady level of issues that never really changed. I have two kids and during my last pregnancy 2 years ago, off the meds I was fine. Does anyone have any comments?

Hi Lostflutterby,

Welcome tot he community here on the forum. As we are not medical professionals, I would like to suggest that you go and have a chat with your Dr about how you are feeling regarding yor medication.

Maybe ask if you can be referred to a psychiatrist who will be able to talk with you, access your needs and consider your medication options or maybe even a stop to medications, it would be up to what the medical people suggest to you.

As you have been off the medication before and felt okay without it, as the Dr what he thinks about a slow and checked withdrawal.

Sometimes we don't always realise just how much we are coping with the medication, we just desire for things to be even better than they are.

It is beneficial to have other helping strategies to work alongside the medication.

Chatting to your Dr might be the first step for you.

Cheers to you from Dools

Thank you for your reply. I think I left out a bit too much detail lol. I am seeing my GP later in the week to discuss with him too. I have a great counselor who is a good match for myself, but due to demand I can only see her once every 6 weeks. I have noticed that since taking meds my general feeling has actually worsened but because theres been an improvement elsewhere I've stayed on meds, with dr advice. Most recently I've been spacing out, not retaining information and forgetting basic things. But not to the extent I'm not aware of things around me. I'm in perfect physical health and I stay healthy. It's almost like a brain fog.

I suppose I have heard of bad reactions at times and I wonder whether anyone has any similar experiences.

I'm so sorry I was unclear on my first post.

Hi Lostflutterby,

There is certainly no need to apologise, I have just re-read my reply and seen my spelling and grammar mistakes! The written word is always interesting to read and understand.

Yes, have a chat with your Dr about the side effects you are experiencing. It could be the medication I assume or maybe something else. If you don't mind me asking, do you suffer from stress? I have experienced a sense of brain fog due to depression and stress.

Sometimes it may be difficult for the Dr to determine the exact cause of different issues.

Do you have some strategies on how to help yourself between appointments with the counsellor?

Some people use brain games to help restore the mind and to keep it functioning well. You might like to consider ways of working the mind a little.

Wishing you well with the Drs. appointment. Cheers from Dools
