Antidepressants

Hey everyone,

I've been officially diagnosed with depression 2 months ago and perscribed medication.

I feel like the meds have sucked the life out of me. I feel like I'm flat lining all the time and never get excited about anything. I've lost motivation to play sport and train at the gym.

Does it really get any better?

Hello 8491

Welcome and thankyou for being a part of the forums!

I understand your situation as I also felt the same after 2 months as well. The meds can take some time to have an effect for sure. Can I ask if you have any anxiety as part of your diagnosis?

The meds are never a fix all though. They do work well with frequent counseling 🙂

Your motivation will come back. My meds gave me my career.. personal life and my peace of mind back

You are not alone in any way

my kind thoughts

Hi. Give it time. For me it took 6 to 8 week before life seemed to be getting back to normal.

Everyone is different when it comes to anti depressants.

Any doubts go back to the doctor.

That voice in your head that mite say your being a pest. Is wrong.

Thats part of depression.

Hi Guest and welcome to the forums.

I completely agree with Bush Resident and Paul.

It can also take some time to get used to the meds, get the right meds or the right dose. Everyones mind is different and is wired differently so it can take time to get it right.

I think open communication regarding your concerns with meds and your feelings is vital. I was open with mine. I have had to change my meds before because some were not making a huge difference to my depression. Because I was open I am now on the right meds and dose.

Hello Guest_8491, welcome to the forum.

I can only agree with what has been said from all these caring people above me, but I'm so sorry that you have depression with the possibility that anxiety may also happen.

Having medication is certainly what everybody with depression is advised to be taking, but counselling is also suggested as there could be hidden problems that are affecting you, which you are unaware of and need to be sorted out.

Once this illness is under control then the AD's can then stabilise your condition, that's exactly what's happened to me.

Playing sport and going to the gym may not be something that interests you at the moment and that's sad but know exactly how you feel, slowly it will come back to you I hope.

Best wishes.

Geoff.

Hi guest,

I’m sorry to hear about your depression. It is very debilitating and can make you feel like nothing is ever going to get better.

Meds take time to properly work, I’m on a med that had to be tapered up over the space of 3 months, and their effect is by no means a miracle cure that will make jump up and down in joy all of a sudden. However they will give you a handle to face your life again, ie perhaps eventually going back to the gym, something that you will derive joy from.

Sometimes the dosage is not right or the actual med is not for you but you’ll only know this if you give it a fair chance. Feeling flat and/or deflated is as much part of depression as it can result whilst adjusting to your meds.

I hope you feel better soon!
