I don't agree with this at all. If a person is suicidal, they should be immediately hospitalised. Expecting loved ones (if the person has any) to guard against suicide is wrong. The truth is, there are not enough beds so it is "convenient" for government agencies to keep people out of hospital and instead get families, who are often traumatised, to look after the mentally ill person. I have been a carer. It is an horrific experience. You can't always help the mentally ill person, but you can definitely help the carers. Putting suicidal people in hospital allows the carers to take a breath.
