traumatised after trying medication for 6 days.

Hi guys,

Hoping to find some other people that have had a similar experience with this.

Whilst trying medication for the first time almost 2 weeks ago, it left me feeling really broken. With the Drs guidance I stopped taking it then and there. Worst side effects were going way too deep with thought leaving me dissociated and scared out of my mind like as if i wasn't even real. Although I know it's not permanent, it was and the thought is still is scaring me and i just feel unhappy and aching to feeling like myself again.

Hope to hear from some of you with some positive recovery stories 🙂

Hi Faith,

While I don't have a personal story to relate, I wanted to reply to your post. I am glad that you stopped taking the medication only after your doctor okayed it. The dissociation sounds unsettling. If this continues to cause fear, getting a referral to a counsellor or other mental health professional is worthwhile. If you don't mind me asking, what did you take the medication for? Will you need to try another medication for your condition/health?

Best wishes,

Hi Faith

I understand your anguish with the meds. I have been on them for 21 years (and I am anti-meds) and they do make us feel dissociated in the early stages as you mentioned. And yes...that feeling can be really unsettling too.

You will recover without any long term issues after stopping your meds Faith. Sure the feelings are different but the meds were just trying to build a foundation on which you can heal more effectively.

These feelings are temporary and will decrease in intensity 🙂

Your GP is there for you Faith. You pay her/his salary. If you have ongoing concerns call your clinic and leave a message for a return call. Your GP will get back to you after the end (or during) of their shift and provide the re-assurance you need.

We are here too of course whether for a chat or for some support!

my kind thoughts

hello Faithh, can I ask whether it was your decision or your doctor's suggestion to stop, because there is a difference between the two of these.
The problem is are you going to feel like yourself without taking any medication, because there is obviously something that is troubling you. Geoff.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for your concern 🙂

Sure, it was my Drs and my decision. Since being off the meds (which I was only on for 6 days, but believe me it was enough for the Dr to say stop immediately!) I have been feeling better day by day, working through my anxieties with the help of my therapist and schedules I've put in place.
