I know that while the medical community consider that severe antidepressant withdrawal effects are rare, some people do experience them, but you would have experienced them for the whole time you had stopped the medication, not just the past few weeks. Usually, the worst that happens after stopping an antidepressant is that the medical condition that people were taking them for comes back, simply because it isn't being treated anymore. Having lots of psychological support - seeing a psychologist regularly, for example - can make a huge difference between having difficulties when you cease antidepressants, and having no difficulties. A professional can also help you notice the first signs that you aren't doing so well, so that you don't get really unwell before you do something about it.
Hopefully the antidepressants work their magic, and the world is looking a much better place soon. Many people go off antidepressants with no problems, you might just need better psychological support in place if/when you choose to next time.

Hello Gizz, I can't say whether stopping antidepressants (AD) withdrawals is rare or not, but we have had many people come onto the forums saying that they have been feeling much better and decide not to take them anymore, however, as soon as they stop back comes their depression (of any type).
This will depend on their circumstances and whether they've changed, but it's best to consult with your doctor if you want to come off them, knowing the repercussions that may happen.
I feel sorry for what's happened but realising that nobody should play around with AD, I know I will be taking them for a long time, probably as my GP for life.
Take care.
Geoff.

Gizz
thanks for your message. I think it is important to get medical advice before going off medication.
As Geoff says often people feel well so go off medications notvrealsingvthe medication was helping.
Talking to your doctor is necessary before making a decision about medications .
Thanks forvstrating this discussion. Gizz
