Hi I'm new to the forum and just wanting some support having a rough time at the moment. As of last night was advised by my psych to cease taking one of my medications. Just wondering if anyone experienced any withdrawals from this my psych said I shouldn't cause it's a small dose but the first night was HELL my anxiety is through the roof, didn't sleep at all last night, feel constantly nauseous like what the hell is this normal?

anyones support would be much appreciated I'm going out of my mind here!

Thanks

Chloe

Hi Chloe

i'm a newby here, too.  i've been on antidepressents for over 10 years and have stopped taking them in the past, so know what you are experiencing.

Our brains are chemical/electrical functioning so the medication changes that, and when we stop taking those medications the chemistry balance changes, that's why our brains are like "huh, what's going on, i feel different..."

it shouldn't last too long, though, a few days of rebalancing, then you should balance out a bit.  contact your therapist, though, if you're finding it too freaky.

hope that helps you some 🙂

Hey Chloe

Totally feeling for you mate!!  I came off some meds a couple of weeks ago and honestly I felt completely insane!!!!!  I couldn't handle anything at all.  In the end what got me through it was support.  Have you got people around you who are there for you?  I didn't but I received fantastic through the beyond blue online support and the crisis care team at my local community mental health clinic.

From that horrendous experience all I can say is please don't try and do it alone.  Help is available and it certainly got me through.

Hi Chloe

Yes, some of us do get very bad withdrawals and they can last for months. Don't think there's anything wrong with yourself. Many dr's are ignorant of the problems because (conspirisory theory hat on now) the drug companies don't promote this.

There are resources out there dedicated to withdrawal problems - it is such a big issue for some of us. Let google be your friend.

dear Chloe, welcome aboard,

Any antidepressant is a drug and even if it's a low dose doesn't really matter because as far as I'm concerned it should be broken down bit by bit, especially if you are not conversed with taking any medication.

Doctors can give patients another soft drug that can ease the withdrawals and they do this for people who stop drinking alcohol cold turkey.

OK you have now had one or two days without it and if you are still suffering go back to the psych or ring them and explain your situation.

Sometimes these psych's have to have some compassion with regards to their clients. L Geoff. x
